Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of formula where R is an alkyl radical, A the divalent radical of an amine or enamine capable of coupling of which the amino group is joined to -N(+)R1R2R3 by way of an alkylene or arylene radical, X and Y radicals which do not dissociate in aqueous solution and which may be parts of a condensed-on aromatic ring which may be substituted by the equivalent of an anion and R1, R2 and R3 are alkyl radicals which may be substituted and may be united to each other, possibly by way of hetero atoms. The dyes are made by treating a compound of the formula HANR1R2, or an appropriate quaternary ammonium salt thereof, with the required thiazolone-2-hydrazone by the process of Specification 782,310 with subsequent quaternisation if necessary. Illustrative of specified 2-hydrazones are 3-methyl-4-phenyl-, 3-methylbenz- and 3-methyl-6-chlor- and -phenylamino and -acetylamino-benz-thiazolone-2-hydrazones. Representative of specified amines are and Indicated as alkylating agents are alkyl halides, dialkyl sulphates and alkyl esters of organic sulphonic acids. Z(-) may be derived from inorganic, organic or complex acids, e.g. bromide, perchlorate, trichlorzincate, phosphate and oxalate. The dyes colour textile materials of polyacrylonitrile or poly-1,1-dicyanoethylene or copolymers thereof with compounds such as vinyl acetate and chloride and vinylidene chloride. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring processes, blue shades being obtained. Specifications 860,584 and 860,634 also are referred to.

Abstract: The dyes of formulae are prepared by conventional diazotization and coupling processes.ALSO:The invention provides a process in which metal containing polypropylene is dyed with monoazo dyes of general formula:- in which R1 is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl radical, R2 is an unsubstituted or substituted aryl radical and the ring A may have non-ionic substituent e.g. halogen atoms, or alkyl or alkoxy dialkylamino or acrylamino groups. Metals present in the polypropylene may be zinc, aluminium, chromium, cobalt, iron or nickel, dyeing is advantageously effected at 70-130 DEG C at pH 4-5 conventional thickeners and dispersing agents being used.

Abstract: The invention comprises a basic dye having a cation of the formula in which K denotes the radical of an amino compound capable of coupling or an enamine capable of coupling, X denotes an alkyl radical, an aryl radical, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylamino radical or an arylamino radical, R1 denotes an alphatic radical and R2 denotes an alkyl radical or an aryl radical and a process for the preparation thereof wherein an azo dye of the general formula is alkylated. Azo dyes employed as starting materials are obtained by coupling appropriate diazotized aminothazoles with appropriate amines such as dimethylaniline, cyanethylacetoxyethylaniline or ethyl aminonaphthalene or appropriate enamines such as 1-methyl-2-phenylindole or 2-cyanomethyl-benzimidazole. Alkylating agents specified include dimethyl and diethyl sulphates, methyl toluene sulphonate and ethyl bromide. Many additional starting materials are specified. Examples are furnished. The dyes are suitable for dyeing silk, leather, hair, mordanted cotton, synthetic polyamides, cellulose esters and especially polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile and dicyano-ethylene.

Abstract: Trimethyl hydroquinone is prepared by converting an azo compound of the formula in which A denotes the radical of a diazotizable amino compound, obtainable by reacting an appropriate hydrazone and ketone in the presence of a basic condensing agent (see Division C4), into trimethylquinone by reductive cleavage and oxidation of the product followed by reduction of the quinone. The reduction may be carried out in mineral acid solution with zinc or stannous salts or in neutral or weakly alkaline solution with sodium dithionite. An example is furnished.ALSO:In a process for the production of azo compounds having the general formula in which A denotes the radical of a diazotizable amino compound, R1, R2 and R3 may be identical or different and denote hydrogen atoms, alkyl radicals, aryl radicals or aralkyl radicals, a hydrozone having the general formula is reacted with a ketone having the general formula in which A, R1, R2 and R3 have the meanings given above, in the presence of a basic condensing agent. The examples relate to the preparation of azo dyes from the monophenylhydrazone of mesoxaldialdehyde and corresponding compounds substituted in the benzene ring with such substituents as chloro, nitro, benze azo-, methyl and sodium sulphonate groups and such ketones as acetone, diethyl ketone, diisobutyl ketone and dibenzyl ketone. Appropriate dyes produced by the process may be employed in the preparation of 2,3,5-trimethyl-1-aminophenol-(4) (see Division C2).
