Abstract: Stable concd. solns. of esterified rhodamine dyes are obtd. by heating dyes of formula: (in which R is ethyl or methyl) in polyhydric glycols and/or glycol ethers at 100-200 degrees C. They may be prepd. by alkylating the bases corresp. to (A) or (B) with dialkyl sulphate in the glycol and/or glycol ether, and subsequent heating at 100-200 degrees C. Solns. obtd. from (A) are suitable for use as printing inks, and those from a mixt. of (A) and (B) in ratios of 40:60 to 60:40 are esp. useful for dyeing paper.
