Abstract: Salts of esterified rhodamine dyes are prepared in granular form by precipitating the rhodamine dyes with sodium chloride from an aqueous medium containing a water-miscible solvent by adding the sodium chloride at 80 DEG -100 DEG C., which precipitates the dyes in liquid form from the aqueous medium, then stirring the liquid dyes to convert them into a droplet form and then chilling the droplets by direct cooling to below 65 DEG C.

Abstract: Auramine salts are prepd by (a) forming the auramine base; (b) dissolving it in org. water-immiscible solvent (II); and (c) extracting the base by reaction with aq. acid (III) contg. glycol of formamide, to form the salt where the solvent is immiscible with glycol and formamide when acid is present. The base is liberated in soda wash. The NH4 salt is sulphate, chloride, sulphamate, sulphanylate or toluene sulphonate. (II) is tri- or tetra-chlorethylene. (III) is sulphuric, hydrochloric or low mol. wt carboxylic acids. The method gives, better yields, reduced effluent and needs smaller plant.

Abstract: Described is a method of purifying solid hydrophobic substances in the presence of water to form a granulate material by treating the solid substances, under warm conditions, optionally several times, with one or more different two-phase systems comprising (A) a phase which wets the solid substances and causes the granulate material to form and which consists essentially of one or more organic liquids which are immiscible or only partially miscible with water and (B) a phase which takes up the impurities and which consists essentially of (B1) water, one or more organic liquids miscible with water and, optionally, an inorganic acid or base or (B2) water and an inorganic acid. The granulate material thus formed is subsequently separated from the aqueous phase.
