Abstract: An antifreeze concentrate based on alkylene glycols or their derivatives is free from silicate, borate and nitrate contains (a) 0.05-10 wt.% 3-16 C carboxylic acid(s) in the form of alkali metal or (substituted) ammonium salt(s) and (b) 0.01-3 wt.% hydrocarbotriazole(s) and/or hydrocarbothiazole(s), especially benzotriazole and/or tolutriazole. Also claimed is a ready-to-use aqueous antifreeze composition containing water and 10-90 wt.% of the concentrate.

Abstract: Deicing/antiicing fluids for aircraft which contain essentially glycols, crosslinked polyacrylic acid, a nonionic surfactant based on alkoxylated C10-C20 alcohols, corrosion inhibitors, a mixture of NaOH and KOH, an antioxidant and water, reduce the loss of lift by having improved runoff characteristics from the wings while giving a refreeze holdover time of not less than 30 minutes.

Date Feb. 23, 1995Aircraft deicing or antiicing compositions based on glycols and water consist essentially of: a) from 80 to 92% by weight of alkylene glycol having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, an oxyalkylene glycol having 4 to 6 carbon atoms, or mixtures thereof, b) from 0.05 to 1.0% by weight of at least one nonionic surfactant comprising alcohols having 10 to 20 carbon atoms alkoxylated with from 1 to 10 equivalents of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide or mixtures thereof, c) from 0.1 to 0.8% by weight of polymeric carboxylic acid having a molecular weight of from 1,000 to 10,000, d) from 0 to 1.5% by weight of ammonia or of a hydroxyalkylamine, e) from 0 to 1.5% by weight of a further surfactant, f) from 0.01 to 0.8% by weight of at least one corrosion inhibitor, and g) water as remainder.

Abstract: \\ The present invention relates to novel silicate-, borate- and nitrate-free antifreeze concentrates based on alkylene glycols or derivatives thereof which include an inhibitor combination essentially comprising salts of carboxylic acids together with hydrocarbon-triazoles and/or -thiazoles. These antifreeze concentrates are, in particular, entirely free from any salts of inorganic acids as corrosion inhibitors. The invention also relates to ready-to-use aqueous coolant compositions comprising these antifreeze concentrates.

Abstract: De-icing or anti-icing compositions for aircraft, essentially containing glycols, crosslinked polyacrylic acid, a nonionic surfactant composed of alkoxylated C10-C20-alcohols, corrosion inhibitors, a mixture of NaOH and KOH, an oxidation stabiliser and water. The compositions effect a smaller loss of lift owing to an improvement in the flow behaviour on the wings while maintaining a holdover time against refreezing of at least 30 min.
