    Abstract: A container (10) is disclosed comprising a first sidewall (12) having a first layer (104) and a second layer (102). The second layer (102) overlaps a portion of the first layer (104) to define an overlap area (106). A sealing flange (108) extends from the first layer (104) outward of the overlap area (106). A second sidewall (14) is connected to the first sidewall (12) along the sealing flange (108) to define an inner chamber (23) therebetween. The second sidewall (14) and the sealing flange (108) define a first layered structure (120) having a first number of layers along the sealing flange (108). The overlap area (106) and the second sidewall (14) define a second layered structure (122) having a second number of layers. The second number of layers is greater than the first number of layers. The container (10) is sealed by positioning peripheral edges of the first and second sidewalls (12, 14) into registration so that the overlap area (106) is substantially centrally disposed over the second sidewall (14) and applying sealing energy to the first number of layers to define a peripheral seam. Another container (200) suitable for medical uses comprises a first planar member (218), a second planar member (222), a first seam (224) and a second seam (226). The first planar member (218) is of a multi-layered polymeric material and further comprises a first substrate (238) and a first layer (246). The first layer (246) is disposed on a portion of the first substrate (238) to separately define a first overlap area (258) and an adjacent first peripheral flange (262). The second planar member (222) is of a multi-layered polymeric material. The first seam (224) attaches a portion of the first overlap area (258) to the second planar member (222). The second seam (226) is spaced from the first seam (224) and attaches a portion of the first peripheral flange (262) to the second planar member (222).

Additionally, the present invention provides medical grade tubing made from such a material.
