Abstract: A high resolution toner developing system for a photocopier applies the toner by a rotating roller (5) with permanent magnet cores to form bristles of toner over the surface. The roller is spaced from the process drum by more than the bristle length with the toner transferred by an alternating field. With the roller and drum rotating in the same direction, and at the same surface speed a smear free process is assured. For improved effect the field frequency is chosed using the relation 0.3 X surface speed (mm) is less than or equal to the frequency. A scraper blade (8) limits the length of the bristles and the spacing of the magnetic cores is optimised for an even transfer path for the toner.

This apparatus makes it possible to record and/or to reproduce images with a high image quality. The connecting member includes a container accommodating the recording unit and the reading unit. Alternatively, the connecting member is adapted to keep a portion of the recoding unit and a portion of the reading unit in close contact with each other.
