Abstract: An optical modulation device includes scanning electrodes and signal electrodes disposed opposite to an intersecting with the signal electrodes, and an optical modulation material disposed between the electrodes, a pixel being formed at each intersection of the electrodes and showing a contrast depending on the polarity of a voltage applied thereto. The device is driven by a method including in a writing period for writing in all or prescribed pixels among the pixels on a selected scanning electrode, a first phase for applying a voltage of one polarity having an amplitude exceeding a first threshold voltage of the optical modulation material to the all or prescribed pixels, and a second phase for applying a voltage of the other polarity having an amplitude exceeding a second threshold voltage of the optical modulation material to a selected pixel and applying a voltage not exceeding the threshold voltages of the optical modulation material to the other pixels, respectively among the all or prescribed pixels. The maximum duration of a continually applied voltage of the same polarity applied to a pixel on a scanning electrode is 2.5 times the duration fo the first phase in the writing period.

Abstract: A method is specified for toner transfer development, in which a low-frequency alternating electric bias is applied to the interspace between a charge image carrier and a developer carrier, in order in this way to develop the charge image on the charge image carrier; furthermore, a device is specified for carrying out this method. This bias has a first stage, in which a one-sided movement of developer particles takes place from the developer carrier to the image region of the charge image carrier, a second stage in which there is a to and fro movement of the developer particles between both the image region and the image-free region of the charge image carrier and the developer carrier, and a third stage in which the intensity of the bias is decreased so as to produce a one-sided movement of toner particles from a developer carrier to the image region and a one-sided movement of developer particles from the image-free region to the developer carrier.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for conveying developing agent for use in an image forming apparatus, in which a magnetic developer is placed under the influence of a forcing magnetic field, then the developer restrained by the forcing magnetic field is caused to pass through a slit-passageway having a narrowing clearance, thereafter the developer is pushed out into a conveying path by reducing the intensity of the forcing magnetic field to the developer which has passed through the minimum clearance in the slit-passageway below the magnetic field in the minimum clearance section of the slit-passageway, and finally the developer which has been pushed out into the conveying path is moved in and through the conveying path by being further pushed by subsequently transported developer. The apparatus is basically constructed with a magnetic developer conveying device having a magnetic power source to impart moving force to the magnetic developer, and a guide member disposed adjacent to the magnetic developer conveying device to guide the magnetic developer in substantially an upward direction.

Abstract: An improved image transfer device for intermittently bringing a continuous image transfer medium into contact with the images on an image bearing member and transferring the images from the image bearing member to the image transfer medium. The image transfer device of the present invention utilizes an air pressure to bring the continuous image transfer medium into contact with and separate it from the image bearing member without the transfer medium and the surface of the image bearing member being contacted by a mechanical member such as an image transfer roller or bar or the like.

Abstract: An optical modulation device, such as a ferroelectric liquid crystal device, comprises a matrix of pixels (11) arranged in a plurality of rows (12) and a plurality of columns (13), pixels on each row being electrically connected to a scanning electrode (S1, S2, S3, S4) and pixels on each column being electrically connected to a signal electrode (I1, I2, I3, I4). The optical modulation device is driven by a method comprising, in a scanning selection period applying a scanning selection signal to a selected scanning electrode (S1, S2, S3, S4), the scanning selection signal comprising plural voltage levels including a maximum value ¦Vs.max¦ in terms of an absolute value with respect to the voltage level of a non-selected scanning electrode, and applying in phase with the scanning selection signal a voltage signal comprising plural voltage levels to a signal electrode (I1, I2, I3, I4) so as to apply to a pixel on the selected scanning electrode plural pulse voltages including a maximum value voltage ¦Vmax¦ and a minimum pulse voltage ¦Vmin¦ respectively in terms of an absolute value, satisfying the relationship of: ¦Vmax¦ - ¦Vmin¦

Abstract: An image recording and/or reproducing apparatus including a recording unit having a recording driving mechanism for recording a plurality of images in the form of electrostatic pattern on different regions of a photosensitive member, a reading unit having a beam source and capable of scanning the photosensitive member by an electron beam so as to convert the recorded pattern into electric signals, and a connecting member for connecting the recording unit and the reading unit without causing any change in the states of these units. This apparatus makes it possible to record and/or to reproduce images with a high image quality. The connecting member includes a container accommodating the recording unit and the reading unit. Alternatively, the connecting member is adapted to keep a portion of the recoding unit and a portion of the reading unit in close contact with each other.
