Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms for a control plane approach for dense topologies that focusses on discovering shared ECMP groups in the control plane independent of per-prefix learning and then learning prefixes via these shared ECMP groups instead of learning prefixes via one next-hop at a time. In dense topologies, this approach helps minimize BGP path scale, corresponding signaling and enables control plane scaling that is an order of magnitude higher than a traditional eBGP control plane. During link and node topology changes, the described control plane approach enables control plane signaling that is prefix independent and an order of magnitude lower. A control plane approach to path-list sharing and prefix independent signaling on link and node topology changes enables prefix independent convergence (PIC) in scenarios that would not be possible otherwise with traditional FIB driven path-list sharing and PIC.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method herein comprises: determining a set of flows to be monitored within a computer network; determining, by the device, a set of nodes within the computer network through which the set of flows traverse; determining monitoring capabilities for the set of nodes; generating an assignment for each particular node of the set of nodes to monitor a subset of one or more flows of the set of flows based on the monitoring capabilities of each particular node, wherein the assignment for each particular node of the set of nodes ensures that each flow of the set of flows is monitored by at least one or more nodes of the set of nodes; and instructing the set of nodes to monitor the set of flows according to the assignment for each particular node of the set of nodes.

Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for configuring an edge router of a communication provider network, the edge router coupled to communicate with a plurality of media streaming playback devices. Based at least in part on an indication of characteristics associated with the plurality of media streaming playback devices, a first multicast join for the edge router is configured to the communication provider network such that one or more media servers delivers a first plurality of media streams to the edge router via the communication provider network. Based at least in part on an indication of a request for an additional media stream not included in the first plurality of media streams, a second multicast join for the edge router is configured to the communication provider network such that the one or more media servers delivers the additional media stream to the edge router via the communication provider network.

Abstract: In some aspects, a method for establishing a multicast-only Fast Re-Route (FRR) (MoFRR) path between a source node and a receiving node in a network, the method includes receiving, by a merged receiving node, a plurality of data packets in a data flow comprising an FRR indicator, wherein the merged receiving node is configured to identify an FRR path for data transmission to the source node, extracting, by the merged receiving node, from the FRR indicator, an identification of the source node as a destination of the data transmission, and a first identifier identifying a first data packet as part of a first flow of a MoFRR, and a second identifier identifying a second data packet as part of a second flow of a MoFRR, transmitting, by the receiving node, the first data packet along a primary data path and the second data packet along a secondary data path.

Abstract: A system and associated methods provide solutions for reducing a volume of traffic through a multicast network attributed to repeated maintenance messages, which are required in order to maintain a multicast connection. The system configures provider edge devices to generate and send maintenance messages on behalf of members of a multicast group to establish and maintain the multicast connection and provides options for determining unknown locations of sources and/or subscribers, thereby reducing the overall volume of traffic transmitted over the multicast network.

Abstract: In-band network telemetry for multicast is provided by injecting a synthetic telemetry packet into the multicast. Each first node of each branch replicates the synthetic packet and passes on copy to the next branch and sends one copy down the nodes in the branch sequentially. The synthetic telemetry packet can include flags with have values, including, for example, whether each node should hold or send data collected by the node according to the synthetic data packet, how long a node is to hold collected telemetry data, and what data to collect. The node sends a postcard to the originator with the telemetry data according to the instructions in the synthetic telemetry packet.
