Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyether-imide copolymer of excellent melt flow property, comprising units having a skeleton derived from a specified dihydric phenol and units having a skeleton derived from another dihydric. phenol. CONSTITUTION:This copolymer has repeating units of formula I, wherein the amount of Ar is 1-99wt.% and the amount of Ar' is 99-1wt.%. In formula I, Ar and Ar' are different from each other and are 6-44C bivalent organic groups, and R is a bivalent organic group selected from among a 6C or higher aromatic hydrocarbon group derived from an organic diamine or an organic diisocyanate, its halogenated derivative, an alkylene group, a cycloalkylene group, an alkylene group-terminated polyorganosiloxane and a group of formula II. In formula II, X is -O-, -S-, -CyH2y- or the like, y is an integer of 1-10, p is an integer of 0-10, and R5-R8 are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-5C alkyl group. Ar is a bivalent organic group of formula III (wherein R1-R4 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a 1-5C linear or branched alkyl group). It is desirable that Ar' is a group of formula IV.

Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled elastomer that is composed of polyurethane containing, as soft segments, a specific diol and polyorganosiloxane, thus being suitable for use as a medical material such as for artificial heart, because it has a good balance between hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties and micro phase-separation structure. CONSTITUTION:The objective elastomer is a polyurethane or polyurethane urea, preferably containing 40-70wt% of the soft segments which is composed of (A) poly(oxy-2-methyl-1,3-propane)diol preferably with a number-average molecular weight of 400-2,000, preferably 20-50wt%, and (B) a polyorganosiloxane such as polymethylsiloxane, preferably with a number-average molecular weight of 200-3,000, preferably 5-30wt%. For example, a prepolymer having terminal NCO groups is prepared from components A and B, then a short-chain diol is used to effect chain extension to give the objective elastomer.
