Abstract:
A blow molding apparatus (10) is provided comprising a blow mold (22), an extrusion apparatus (30), a locator mechanism, and a blow pin. The blow mold has first and second blow mold halves which are engageable and disengageable with one another. The first and second blow mold halves define first and second inner cavities (22a, 22b) when the mold halves are engaged. The first cavity (22a) has a first shape and the second cavity (22b) has a second shape which differs from the first shape. The extrusion apparatus (30) has a die head (32) through which a parison is extruded. The locator mechanism is associated with one of the blow mold (22) and the extrusion apparatus (10) for changing the positioning between the blow mold (22) and the die head (32) to allow capture of an extruded parison by the first and second mold halves within a desired one of the first (22a) and second inner cavities (22b) such that the extruded parison can be formed into an article having substantially the same shape as the desired cavity. The blow pin is associated with one of the first and second mold halves for passing pressurized fluid into the interior of the parison to blow the parison against the first and second mold halves to form the article.
Abstract:
A flexible film (11) and flexible food storage bag (10) for packaging produce such as vegetables and fruits wherein the film or bag has plurality of microholes (12) specifically designed to allow the produce to breathe in a controlled rate such that localized condensation and weight loss is minimized, which in turn reduces microbial (bacteria and mold) growth and reduces produce mushiness (softness) respectively.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a moisturizing composition comprising a matrix copolymer of from 10 to 60 weight percent of carboxylic acid monomeric units with the balance being non-acidic monomeric units copolymerizable with the carboxylic acid monomeric units, and isopropanolamine or an isobutanolamine as a neutralizing agent, one or more chelating agents for preferentially chelating calcium of the skin of a user, and a vehicle for the matrix copolymer, neutralizing agent and chelating agent. Further disclosed is a process for moisturizing the skin by applying the above composition to the surface of the skin.
Abstract:
A closure (34) for reclosable plastic containers including male (36) and female (38) closure elements having extremities (46, 48) which are suited for interlocking with one another, in which the interlocking extremities (46, 48) of the male (36) and female (38) elements are guided into interlocking engagement responsive to compressive force placed on the elements (36, 38), as in the clamping together and edge-sealing of film portions (22) carrying the elements (36, 38).
Abstract:
A collapsible container (10) having a generally cylindrical configuration including at least an upper thicker section (22) and a lower thicker section (26), and at least one thinner section (24) positioned between the upper and lower thicker sections. When the container is collapsed, the upper and lower thicker sections (22, 26) are telescoped within one another and the thinner section (24) is folded therebetween. The container is made of a monolayer of a thermoplastic polymer having a flex modulus of from 60.000 to 160.000 psi (414 MPa to 1,103 MPa) and a heat distortion temperature at 66 psi (455 kPa) of greater than 170 degrees Fahrenheit (77 degrees Celsius). A process for making the collapsible container using extrusion blow molding is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A reclosable thermoplastic bag (10) suitable for ice cubes and the like. The bag (10) includes two opposing thermoplastic sheets, permanent seals (14) joining the opposing sheets along the side edges (12) and the bottom edge (13), peelable seals (15) joining the opposing sheets at intermittent points between the side edges (12), and a stiffened region positioned along the top edge (11) of each opposing sheet above the peelable seals (15). The stiffened region (16) can include a reclosable fastener means, such as a plastic zipper.
Abstract:
Fully diluted hard surface cleaners are disclosed which are particularly effective on cleaning soap scum and hard water stains. The cleaners contain small amounts of particular acids and have a pH of less than 5.0. The cleaners also contain a particular amine oxide, or a different surfactant in conjunction with a solvent.
Abstract:
A closure member for a reclosable thermoplastic bag having opposing profiles wherein a first profile has an longitudinally extending part interlockable and substantially free of interdigitation with a second opposing profile and wherein the part is deformed defining indentions in the part to provide structural discontinuity along its length. The indentions form a raised portion intermittently along the longitudinal length of the profile such that the palmograph value of the closure member is increased while the closing force of the closure member is decreased. When the profiles are interlocked, an audible clicking sound and/or a vibratory or bumpy feel perceptible to the touch is imparted. Further disclosed is a process and apparatus for making the closure member wherein a closure member profile is extruded and indentions are formed within and along the profile.
Abstract:
A collapsible, microwavable container (10) for storing food and non-food items is provided. The container is substantially clear in appearance and includes an upper open end (12), a lower end (14) closed by a bottom wall (16), and a peripheral side wall (18) extending between the upper and lower ends which is movable between extended and collapsed positions upon the exertion of a force. The peripheral side wall of the container includes upper, lower and intermediate portions with the container walls being comprised of outer (28, 32) and inner (30) layers of a thermoplastic polymer such as polypropylene having a first flex modulus and a second layer having a lower flex modulus than the outer and inner layers. The source of polypropylene in the second polymer layer is preferably obtained from recycled scrap from the container manufacturing process, which allows the container to be economically produced.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a collapsible, microwavable container for storing and heating foods. The container is substantially clear in appearance and includes an upper open end (12), a lower end (14) closed by a bottom wall (16), and a peripheral side wall (18) extending between the upper and lower ends which is movable between extended and collapsed positions upon the exertion of a force. The peripheral side wall (18) of the container includes upper (22), lower (26) and intermediate (24) portions. In a preferred embodiment, the container walls are comprised of outer and inner layers of a thermoplastic polymer such as polypropylene having a flex modulus of about 150,000 psi (1034 MPa) and an intermediate layer having a lower flex modulus than the outer and inner l ayers. In an alternative embodiment, the container may comprise a single layer where the upper and lower portions of the peripheral side wall are formed from a thermoplastic polymer having a first flex modulus and the intermediate portion is formed from a polymer having a lower flex modulus.
