    Abstract: A method of providing a rocker arm set for a valvetrain includes providing a first intake rocker arm, a second intake rocker arm and a first exhaust rocker arm. The first intake rocker arm is configured as a switching rocker arm for a first intake valve on a first cylinder. The second intake rocker arm is for a second intake valve on a second cylinder. The second rocker arm is configured to operate in a normal Otto cycle mode. The first exhaust rocker arm is provided for a first exhaust valve on the second cylinder. The first intake rocker arm operates in one of an LIVC or EIVC mode where the first intake rocker arm is configured to open or close at a different time compared to the second intake valve. The first exhaust rocker arm operates in a cylinder deactivation mode.

    Abstract: A rocker arm can comprise a forked outer arm assembly and a T-shaped inner arm assembly comprising an inner arm body comprising a valve side, a latch side, a bearing hole on the valve side, and a latch body on the latch side, the latch body comprising inner arm extensions extending away from the latch body. A pivot axle can connect the outer arm assembly to the inner arm assembly so that the inner arm assembly is configured to pivot with respect to the outer arm assembly. A latch assembly can comprise a latch configured to selectively extend to and retract from a latch seat on the latch body to selectively lock the inner arm assembly with respect to the outer arm assembly or unlock the inner arm assembly to pivot within the outer arm assembly.

    Abstract: A friction loss management system for an engine, comprises a combustion engine comprising a crankshaft and a plurality of cylinders, a reciprocating piston assembly connected to the crankshaft, a fuel injector connected to an injection controller, an intake valve connected to an intake valve controller, and an exhaust valve connected to an exhaust valve controller. A control unit comprises at least one set of control algorithms configured to receive engine power demand data, and determine a number of cylinders of the plurality of cylinders for deactivation based on the received engine power demand data and further based on sensed or stored friction values for the plurality of cylinders. Determining the number of cylinders of for deactivation minimizes friction between the plurality of cylinders and their respective reciprocating piston assembly by selecting a cylinder combination of active cylinders and deactivated cylinders with the lowest total friction while meeting engine power demand.

    Abstract: A transmission system selectively coupled to an engine crankshaft of an internal combustion engine arranged on a vehicle includes a transmission, an aftertreatment system, an accessory device and a controller. The aftertreatment system reduces emissions in an exhaust of the internal combustion engine. The accessory device is configured to provide power. The controller operates in an aftertreatment heat-up mode such that the aftertreatment system is heated up to an elevated temperature and emissions are thereby reduced based on the elevated temperature. The controller is configured to heat up the aftertreatment system to reach between one (1) and two (2) kilowatt hours (kWh) of enthalpy before two minutes at engine startup by (i) operating the internal combustion engine in cylinder deactivation mode (CDA); (ii) operating the internal combustion engine at an elevated idle speed; and (iii) operating the accessory device at a threshold power.
