Abstract: An image data reconstructing method and apparatus, adaptive to both progressive and sequential image buildup modes, reconstructs an orthogonally transformed image by dequantizing transform coefficients decoded from coded data of a continuous tone image, by causing the transform coefficients to have a common data structure through an attachment of a dummy signal representing a zero value DC element. The image data reconstructing method comprises a coded data decoding step, a common data structure one-dimensional quantized transform coefficient creating step, a one-to-two dimensional quantized transform coefficient transforming step, a dequantization threshold storing step, and a two-dimensional quantized transform coefficient dequantizing step. The image data reconstructing apparatus comprises a dummy signal generator for generating such dummy signals and a selector for selecting the dummy signals.

Abstract: An image data reconstructing device, for reconstructing image data from animation data encoded by an image data encoding device, comprises: frame encoded data storing means (17) for storing encoded data of frames; detection condition storing means (18) for storing the condition set for detecting that the present frame is a scene-changed frame; scene-changed frame detecting means (19) for extracting encoded data of scene-changed frames from the encoded data according to the detection condition stored in said detection condition storing means (18) and to the difference in the amount of codes, between adjacent frames, inputted from said frame encoded data storing means (17); encoded data reconstructing means (20) for reconstructing image data from encoded data of scene-changed frames extracted by said scene-changed frame detecting means (19); scene-changed frame image storing means (21) for storing image data of the scene-changed frames reconstructed by said encoded data reconstructing means (20); and display instructing means (22) for instructing a method of displaying image data in scene-changed frame stored by said scene-changed frame image storing means (21). An image data reconstructing method of reconstructing image data from encoded data, a scene change recording device, and a scene change recording/regenerating device are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image data reconstructing apparatus for reconstructing an original image by dividing image data into a plurality of blocks each including NXN picture elements, performing two-dimensional orthogonal transform on each of said blocks, quantizing and encoding the result of said transform, decoding the encoded result, dequantizing and two-dimensional inverse orthogonal transforming the above result, wherein an operation associated with the multiplication is skipped if a multiplication by zero is detected when two-dimensional inverse orthogonal transform is performed. Before performing dequantization, two block volume of buffer is provided before or after performing two-dimensional inverse orthogonal transform for executing a pipeline process. Furthermore, two-dimensional inverse orthogonal transform is performed by repeating two times a process of one-dimensional inverse orthogonal transform and matrix transposition, thus the matrix transposition being performed as the result of one-dimensional inverse orthogonal transform which is stored in buffer.

An image data reconstructing apparatus (Fig. 13) comprises a decoder (161) for decoding input codes to the coefficient codes and succession length codes, a coefficient code reverter (162) for reverting the coefficient codes into significant coefficients, a succession length code reverter (163) for reverting the succession length codes into insignificant coefficient succession length, a memory (142) for storing a data pair of a significant coefficient and an insignificant coefficient succession length, a dequantizer (171) for obtaining appropriate transform coefficients by dequantizing significant coefficients in data pairs, and an inverse orthogonally transformer (180) for two-dimensionally inverse-orthogonally transforming the transform coefficient matrix and for outputting the transforming result as image data.

Abstract: An image region detection method for detecting a quadrangular region in a second image, the second image being obtained by photographing a quadrangular first image, and the second image including the quadrangular region that is an image region corresponding to the first image according to the present invention, includes: detecting an edge while scanning toward a periphery of the second image from a plurality of pixels set as initial points positioned within a certain range from a center of the second image (S1); creating sides of a quadrangle in respective combinations on the basis of transition points on the assumption that there is a combination of transition points obtained in a one-by-one manner from respective transition point detection lines that are oriented in the same direction and that are members of a group of transition point detection lines that are based on the transition point detection performed in four directions on the second image, the four directions being the two vertical and the two horizontal directions, and detecting as candidates for sides of the quadrangle, from among the sides created in the respective directions, those sides that are closest to the initial points (S2); and determining, on the basis of 2 quadrangle formed by the four candidates detected for the sides, whether or not a side is a side that has been detected falsely, and performing redetection of candidates for sides when the side is confirmed to be a side that has been detected falsely (S6).
