Abstract: An image and code data compression apparatus (1) for compressing the image data and further compressing the code data which are compressed from the image data, the apparatus includes: a dividing unit (10) for receiving the image data and dividing them into a plurality of image data blocks; a transformation unit (11, 12) operatively connected to the dividing unit (10) for performing an orthogonal transformation to the image data block and calculating transformation co-efficients for every frequency component; a quantizing unit (13, 14) operatively connected to the transformation unit (11, 12) for quantizing the transformation co-efficients which are calculated by the transformation unit (11, 12) by using a quantized threshold value (Quv) which is set commonly to all image data, and calculating the quantized orthogonal transformation co-efficients; a coding unit (15) operatively connected to the quantizing unit (13, 14) for performing the variable length coding process for the quantized transformation co-efficients which are calculated by the quantizing unit (13, 14) and outputting the code data which are compressed from the image data; a detecting unit (16) operatively connected to at least one of above units (10 to 15) for detecting the complexity of the image data block; and a deleting unit (17) operatively connected to at least one of above units (10 to 15) and the detecting unit (16) for deleting the block image data having high complexity detected by the detecting unit.

Abstract: Image data from an upper apparatus is compressed by a compressing unit, the compressed image data is transferred to a display apparatus by a printer interface of a low speed, and the original image data is reconstructed by a decoding unit and displayed. The display apparatus is a projector and auxiliarily displays a second picture plane into a first picture plane for presentation by an independent liquid crystal panel. A phase transition type liquid crystal panel of a number of pixels and a high resolution is used to display the first picture plane and the image data is compressed and transferred and is displayed. As a second picture plane, a personal computer picture plane is transferred and displayed as it is.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a bit-map compressing method and a bit-map compressing device. The bit-map data compressing method includes a main scanning step for scanning bit-map data in a main scanning direction; a first region separating step for separating a region including black pixels and a region including no black pixels in line unit; a secondary scanning step for scanning in a secondary direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction; a second region separating step for separating a region including black pixels and a region including no black pixels, in column unit; and an encoding step for encoding as an element each region obtained in the first region separating step and the second region separating step. Bit-map can be transferred by effectively performing data compression on simple algorithm, without using special hardware.

Abstract: An image data encoding system efficiently reconstructs an image through a progressive image buildup in stages. An original image is divided into blocks each having NXN picture elements, whose transformation coefficients are obtained by orthogonal transformations on their graduated values. The image data encoding system has a transformation coefficient memory for storing transformation coefficients; a mask information memory for storing mask information for masking transformation coefficients; a masker for masking the most significant bits of the transformation coefficients specified by mask information; a shift information memory storing quantization thresholds for quantizing the transformation coefficients; and a quantizer for quantizing the masked transformation coefficients per the quantization threshold. The quantization threshold can be given a value of 2 to an integer power, and quantization can be attained by shifting bits of the transformation coefficients towards less significant bits by that power.

The image data reconstructing method comprises a coded data decoding step, a common data structure one-dimensional quantized transform coefficient creating step, a one-to-two dimensional quantized transform coefficient transforming step, a dequantization threshold storing step, and a two-dimensional quantized transform coefficient dequantizing step. The image data reconstructing apparatus comprises a dummy signal generator for generating such dummy signals and a selector for selecting the dummy signals.
