    Abstract: The present application provides slot seals for reducing leakages between adjacent components of turbomachinery. The seals may include a metallic shim and a coating overlying the metallic shim. The coating may be a metallic coating, a glass coating, an enamel coating or a ceramic coating. The coating may form an outer surface of the seal for engagement with seal slot surfaces of a seal slot of a turbomachine. The coating may be operable to conform to surface irregularities of the seal slot surfaces and remain coupled to the metallic shim at a predefined operating temperature and a predefined operating pressure to reduce leakage past the seal and thereby between the components. The coating may be configured to flow into depressions formed by the surface irregularities of the seal slot surfaces and remain coupled to the metallic shim at the predefined operating temperature and the predefined operating pressure.

    Abstract: Coating systems and processes by which the coating systems can be deposited to be resistant to contaminants, and particularly resistant to infiltration and damage caused by CMAS. The coating systems include inner and outer ceramic layers. The inner ceramic layer consists essentially of zirconia stabilized by about 6 to about 9 weight percent yttria and optionally contains greater than 0.5 to 10 weight percent hafnium oxide. The outer ceramic layer overlies and contacts the inner ceramic layer to define the outermost surface of the coating system. The outer ceramic layer consists essentially of zirconia stabilized by about 25 to about 75 weight percent yttria, has a thickness that is less than the thickness of the inner ceramic layer and further contains greater than 0.5 to 10 weight percent hafnium oxide and optionally 1 to 10 weight percent tantalum oxide. The outer ceramic layer has a porosity level that is lower than that of the inner ceramic layer.

    Abstract: A scintillator composition includes a matrix material, where the matrix material includes an alkaline earth metal and a lanthanide halide. The scintillator composition further includes an activator ion, where the activator ion is a trivalent ion. In one embodiment, the scintillator composition includes a matrix material represented by A2LnX7, where A includes an alkaline earth metal, Ln includes a lanthanide ion, and X includes a halide ion. In another embodiment, the scintillator composition includes a matrix material represented by ALnX5, where A includes an alkaline earth metal, Ln includes a lanthanide ion, and X includes a halide ion. In these embodiments, the scintillator composition includes an activator ion, where the activator ion includes cerium, or bismuth, or praseodymium, or combinations thereof.
