Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods, devices, and systems that may enable a touch-based interface to receive dynamic user inputs based on pressure. An exemplary method may involve: (a) detecting a touch interaction including an increase in pressure greater than a first threshold pressure-increase followed by a reduction in pressure greater than a threshold pressure-reduction; and (b) responsive to detecting the touch interaction, initiating an operation based on a region of the touch-based interface that corresponds to the touch interaction, wherein the operation is associated with the touch interaction.
Abstract:
A display panel to form a multi-panel display includes a rectangular pixel region with pixels for displaying images and an electronic housing including display logic. The electronic housing includes first, second, third, and fourth interconnects coupled to facilitate power and image signals to other electronic housings of other display panels. The first, second, third, and fourth interconnects are coupled to be interconnected on a same side of the rectangular pixel region as the first, second, third, and fourth edges of the rectangular pixel region, respectively. The third edge is mechanically coupled to overhang the third interconnect by a first offset distance and the fourth edge is mechanically coupled to overhang the fourth interconnect by a second offset distance. The first interconnect extends beyond the first edge by the first offset distance and the second interconnect extends beyond the second edge by the second offset distance.
Abstract:
Example embodiments may facilitate altitude control by a balloon in a balloon network. An example method involves: (a) causing a balloon to operate in a first mode, wherein the balloon comprises an envelope, a high-pressure storage chamber, and a solar power system, (b) while the balloon is operating in the first mode: (i) operating the solar power system to generate power for the balloon and (ii) using at least some of the power generated by the solar power system to move gas from the envelope to the high-pressure storage chamber such that the buoyancy of the balloon decreases; (c) causing the balloon to operate in a second mode; and while the balloon is operating in the second mode, moving gas from the high-pressure storage chamber to the envelope such that the buoyancy of the balloon increases.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for enabling themes using photo-active surface paint is described. The method may include capturing image data with at least a camera of a painted surface display system. The method may also include analyzing the image data to determine a real-world context proximate to a painted surface, wherein the surface is painted with a photo-active paint. The method may also include selecting a theme based on the determined real-world context. The method may also include generating a theme image, and driving a spatial electromagnetic modulator to emit electromagnetic stimulation in the form of the theme image to cause the photo active paint to display the theme image.
Abstract:
Embodiments relate to a marketplace for inter-network links between a balloon network and a terrestrial data network. An example method may involve a computer-based purchasing agent: (i) determining a demand for inter-network bandwidth between a balloon network and a terrestrial data network, (ii) determining one or more offers to provide an inter-network link, wherein the inter-network link provides inter-network bandwidth between the balloon network and the terrestrial data network, and wherein each offer is associated with a corresponding client device, (iii) based at least in part on a comparison of: (a) the demand for inter-network bandwidth and (b) the one or more offers to provide an inter-network link, selecting one or more of the offers to provide an inter-network link, and (iv) initiating a process to establish an inter-network link at each client device that corresponds to one of the one or more selected offers.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein may relate to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigating to a medical situation in order to provide medical support. An illustrative method involves a UAV (a) determining an approximate target location associated with a medical situation, (b) using a first navigation process to navigate the UAV to the approximate target location, where the first navigation process generates flight-control signals based on the approximate target location, (c) making a determination that the UAV is located at the approximate target location, and (d) in response to the determination that the UAV is located at the approximate target location, using a second navigation process to navigate the UAV to the medical situation, wherein the second navigation process generates flight-control signals based on real-time localization of the medical situation.
Abstract:
A vehicle configured to operate in an autonomous mode can obtain sensor data from one or more sensors observing one or more aspects of an environment of the vehicle. At least one aspect of the environment of the vehicle that is not observed by the one or more sensors could be inferred based on the sensor data. The vehicle could be controlled in the autonomous mode based on the at least one inferred aspect of the environment of the vehicle.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses and systems for adaptive light projection are described herein. According to embodiments of the disclosure, optical data of a physical space around a user is received. Light from a light source is then projected onto a projection area that is determined based, at least in part, on the received optical data.User commands may include requests to locate and/or track objects within the physical space around the user. User commands may comprise a combination of the audible user command and a physical user gesture—e.g., a gesture identifying an object or a surface to receive the projected light.
Abstract:
A balloon having an envelope, a gas contained within the envelope, a payload connected to the envelope, wherein the envelope has a first portion that has a first absorptive or reflective property with respect to allowing solar energy to be transferred to the gas within the envelope, and a second portion that has a second absorptive or reflective property with respect to allowing solar energy to be transferred to the gas within the envelope where the second absorptive or reflective property is different than the first absorptive or reflective property, wherein the second portion is provided with a darkly colored surface that allows more solar energy to be transferred through the envelope to the gas within the envelope than the first portion, and wherein the envelope is rotatable to allow a preferred ratio of the first and second portions of the envelope to be positioned facing the sun.
Abstract:
A display panel for use with a multi-panel display. The display panel includes a display panel including an array of display pixels disposed surrounded by a bezel, the array of display pixels for emitting a display image having a first size, and an optical expansion layer disposed over the array of display pixels to magnify the display image to appear to have a second size larger than the first size and to at least partially conceal the bezel surrounding the housing. The optical expansion layer includes a first array of microlenses optically coupled to the array of display pixels to cause light from the display pixels to diverge, a second array of microlenses having complementary optical power to the first array of microlenses; and an optically transparent offset layer disposed between the first and second arrays of microlenses. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
