    Abstract: In the apparatus disclosed, a direct current source charges several banks of capacitors. A discharge circuit connects the capacitor banks to the same welding terminals.     Abstract: In the apparatus disclosed, welding is accomplished by discharging a bank of capacitors through a pair of electrodes. A transformer energizes a rectifier bridge that charges the capacitor bank through a switching arrangement. The primary winding of the transformer is loosely coupled to the secondary winding, at least at higher loads on the secondary side. This eliminates the high current surge at the beginning of each charging cycle and minimizes the required current-carrying capabilities of the rectifier bridge and switching arrangement.
