Abstract: Vinyl chloride homo-, co- or graft polymers, contg. 50-100 (80100) wt.% polymerised vinyl chloride units, are prepd. by polymerising the monomer(s) in aq. dispersion, using radical-forming catalysts, opt. suspension stabilisers, emulsifiers and further polymerisation auxiliaries, in the presence of 0.0001-1 (0.001-0.1) esp. 0.005-0.05 wt.%, w.r.t. monomer(s), of alkyl-, or aralkyl-phosphonic acids (I). The alkyl gps. of (I) are opt. interrupted by N atoms. The alkyl or aralkyl gps. opt. bear further substituents, and the acid gps. are opt. converted, entirely or partly, to salts with alkali metal- or ammonium cations, which are opt. N-substd. with organic gps. (I) contain 1 or more phosphonic acid gps. and 0.5-8C atoms/phosphonic acid gp. Presence of (I) prevents deposit forming on the reactor, thereby allowing a constant, good heat-transfer to wall and an even prod. quality, and obviating cleaning.
