Abstract: Impregnation of fibrous materials with a hardenable N-methylol phosphorus cpd. and a swellable polymeric aliphatic polyhydroxy cpd., followed by condensation thereof, as in DT 2130432, is improved in that the phosphorus cpd. has the formula: in which R1 and R2 are each H or CH3; alternatively R1 can be -CH2Cl or -CHCl-CH3, whilst R2 is H; a combination of the latter cpds. with the above alkyl esters in a wt. ratio of 2:1 to 2:3 is prefd. because of the increased solubility. Effective, washing-resistant flameproofing is achieved. The materials have 'dry hand'.
