Abstract: A wireless network provides controlled wireless communications with multi-mode wireless WTRUs. The wireless network has at least one base station having a transceiver operating in an infrastructure communication mode with multi mode WTRUs and a controller that transmits control signals via infrastructure communications with a WTRU that control peer-to-peer mode communications of that WTRU with other WTRUs. A WTRU has transceiver components configured for selective operation in an infrastructure communication mode with a network base station and in a peer-to-peer communication mode with other WTRUs. The WTRU also has a transceiver controller configured to selectively control peer-to-peer mode communications with other WTRUs based on communication signals received in infrastructure communications with a network base station. Preferably, the transceiver controller is configured to control the transceiver components to switch between infrastructure communication mode and peer-to-peer communication mode based on Quality of Service criteria.

Abstract: A system facilitates handover of a wireless transmit and receive unit (WTRU) between a cellular network and a wireless local area network (WLAN). The WLAN communicates with a cellular network. A location of the WTRU is determined. The coverage areas of the WLAN and cellular network are determined. The WTRU is informed of the existence of the WLAN when the WTRU approaches the coverage area of the WLAN. The WTRU is handed over from the cellular network to the WLAN when the WTRU is in the coverage area of the WLAN and vice versa.

Abstract: Una red inalámbrica provee comunicaciones inalámbricas controladas con WTRUs inalámbricas de modo múltiple. La red inalámbrica tiene al menos una estación base con un transmisor/receptor que opera en un modo de comunicación de infraestructura con WTRUs de modo múltiple y un controlador que trasmite senales de control a través de comunicaciones de infraestructuras con una WTRU que controla comunicaciones en modo de igual a igual de esa WTRU con otras WTRUs. Una WTRU tiene componentes de transmisor/receptor configurados para operación selectiva en un modo de comunicación de infraestructura con una estación base de red y en un modo de comunicación de igual a igual con otras WTRUs. La WTRU también tiene un controlador de transmisor/receptor configurado para controlar selectivamente comunicaciones en modo de igual a igual con otras WTRUs en base a senales de comunicación recibida en comunicación de infraestructura con una estación base de red. Preferentemente, el controlador de transmisor/receptor está configurado para controlar los componentes de transmisor/receptor para que conmuten entre un modo de comunicación de infraestructura y un modo de comunicación de igual a igual en base a criterios de calidad de servicios.

Abstract: Se provee un método y sistema para una comunicación de una unidad móvil inalámbrica dentro de una red inalámbrica que tiene áreas geográficas para uso preferido en comunicación. Se determina una ubicación geográfica estimada de una unidad móvil. La unidad móvil está provista con datos de posición relativa de la menos un área de comunicación preferida con relación a la ubicación estimada de la unidad móvil es luego reubicada en un área de comunicación preferida en base a los datos de posición relativa. Preferentemente, se inicia una solicitud para una ubicación de área de comunicación preferida previamente designada a través de una transmisión de la unidad móvil y la misma es recibida por una estación base de red. La unidad móvil puede estar equipada con un sistema de posicionamiento global (GPS) para determinar la ubicación estimada de la unidad móvil. La transmisión de datos de ubicación estimada puede depender de si la unidad móvil o la red calcula datos de posición relativa.
