    Abstract: The napkin comprises a central absorption portion (10) including a backsheet (2) of liquid impermeable material, an absorber (3) chiefly composed of a pulp fibre and a highly absorbent polymer, and a topsheet (1) of liquid permeable material. A pair of flaps (20) extend outwardly on opposite sides of the central absorption portion and the backsheet (2) is composed of a film layer having a thickness of 10 mu m to 100 mu m. Each flap is composed of an extended portion of the backsheet (2) and has projection-and-recess-portions (21) of 0.1 mm to 1 mm in depth which are formed on an outer surface of the flap in the density of 5 pcs. to 50 pcs. per cm .

    Abstract: An absorbent article includes a liquid permeable sheet (2), a liquid impermeable sheet (3) and a liquid retentive absorbent element (4) interposed therebetween which together constitute an elongate absorbent body, and a fixing device (7) which is secured to the liquid impermeable sheet (3) and is adapted to fix the absorbent body to the crotch portion (6) of a pair of briefs. The fixing device (7) includes two fixing elements (7C), each of which carries an adhesive area (8) and is movable between a first position in which its adhesive area (8) is separably adhered to the impermeable sheet (3), or an adhesive area (9) carried by it, and a second position in which it projects laterally beyond the absorbent pad. When in the second position, the crotch region (6) of a pair of briefs may be positioned adjacent the impermeable sheet (3) and the fixing elements hinged back substantially to their first position and their adhesive areas (8) adhered to the outer surface of the crotch region (6).
