    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain high durability in a wide environment in the temp. range of low to high temp. by using thermoplastic polyurethane resin whose mol. wt., tensile rupture strength, tensile rupture elongation, 100% modulus and glass transition temp. have been specified. CONSTITUTION:Thermoplastic polyurethane resin is used as a binder for a magnetic recording medium. the polyurethane resin has 5,000-40,000 number average mol. wt. analyzed by gel permeation chromatography, >=200kg/cm rupture strength, 100-400% rupture elongation and >=150kg/cm 100% modulus measured by a tension test at 100mm/min tension speed, and >=40 deg.C glass transition temp. determined by the measurement o the dynamic viscoelasticity. Thus, high durability can be provided in a wise environment in the temp. range of low to high temp.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of magnetic particles while maintaining the mechanical characteristics which a specific polyurethane resin resin possesses by using said polyurethane resin as a binder for a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The polyurethane resin which is produced from the polyketone compd. having at least two hydroxyl groups and expressed by formula I or II as a polyol component is used as the binder for the magnetic recording medium. In formula, n is 1-43 number and m is 1-53 number. The polyketone compd. has preferably 400-6000 number average mol. wt. and more particularly preferably 500-4004000 number average mol. wt. in terms of the flexibility and strong toughness of the resultant polyurethane resin. The number average mol. wt. of the polyurethane resin is 1000-100000, more preferably 5000-50000. The magnetic recording medium is obtd. by providing a magnetic layer formed by dispersing pulverized ferromagnetic powder in such binder on a nonmagnetic base. The specific surface area of the pulverized ferromagnetic powder is preferably /g.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer, crosslinkable by exposure to radiation, forming strong films and useful also as a raw material for polyurethane resins, by subjecting lactones to ring opening polymerization using a specific dihydroxyl compound as an initiator. CONSTITUTION:Lactones are subjected to ring opening polymerization in the presence of a dihydroxyl compound expressed by formula I (R1, R2 and R4 are alkylene; R3 is hydrocarbon derived from diisocyanate group; R5 is H or CH3) as an initiator to afford the aimed polyester expressed by formula II (A is hydrocarbon derived from lactones; m and n are 0 or >=1, provided that m and n are not 0 at the same time).     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin crosslinkable by irradiation to form tough coating film, by ring opening polymerization of a lactone using a specific dihydroxyl compound as the initiator followed by reaction of a polyisocyanate compound. CONSTITUTION:Using a dihydroxyl compound of formula I (R1, R2 and R4 are each alkylene; R3 is hydrocarbon of diisocyanate compound origin; R5 is H or CH3) (e.g. a compound of formula II) as the initiator, a lactone (e.g. epsilon- caprolactone) is brought to ring opening polymerization followed by reaction of a polyisocyanate compound (e.g. 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate) to obtain the objective resin with the both ends of the main molecular chain being OH groups or isocyanate groups. The compound of the formula I is a new material.

CONSTITUTION:A dihydroxyl compd. of formula I (where R1, R2 and R4 are each alkylene; R3 is a hydrocarbon group; R5 is H, CH3) (e.g., compd. of formula II) is reacted with a diisocyanate compd. (e.g., isophorone diisocyanate) and a polyol compd. (e.g., polytetramethylene glycol) to give a urethane oligomer having hydroxyl groups on both ends of its main molecular chain. The dihydroxyl compd. of formula I is a new compd., which is obtd. by mixing a diisocyanate compd. with a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate compd. under stirring, adding an inert org. solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone to said reaction system, further adding dialkanolamine thereto and stirring the mixture.
