    Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily control the reactivity in the oxidation process, to improve the operability and to improve magnetic characteristics of the obtd. magnetic recording medium by mixing oxygen gas with inert gas and then introducing the mixture gas. CONSTITUTION: Oxygen gas and argon gas are supplied from the sources 21, 22, respectively, through flow controllers 23, 24 and mixed in a T-shape tube 25. The gas is completely mixed in a static mixer 26 and passed through a cooling zone 27 to be fed to a nozzle exit 12. In the cooling zone 27, the temp. of the mixture gas is controlled by using liquid nitrogen flowing through a helical tube 28. The temp. of the gas is controlled by detecting temperatures at a thermocouple 29 disposed in the downstream of the cooling zone 27 and at P1 and P2 and controlling the temp. of a heater 30.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium having a high S-N ratio and ensuring very slight dropout by forming two magnetic layers on a substrate and one diamond layer between the magnetic layers. CONSTITUTION: When this magnetic recording medium is produced, a protective layer is formed in vacuum on each of magnetic layers 2, 4. The protective layer on the magnetic layer 4 is formed by sticking carbon, a carbide, nitride or oxide, especially diamondlike carbon, diamond, boron carbide, silicon carbide or aluminum oxide to the magnetic layer 4. The sticking method for forming the protective layer may be any of a chemical vapor growth method (CVD) and a physical vapor deposition method (PVD). An ECR method using microwaves or a method using high frequency (RF) is especially effective as the CVD method. In the case where the protective layer is formed by the CVD method, any of gaseous, liq. and solid starting materials may be used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the traveling properties of the recording medium by providing the medium with a substrate, a magnetic film formed on one surface of the substrate, particles spot- or press-bonded to the other surface of the substrate and a metal film formed on the other surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION: In this recording medium, the order of formation of a magnetic metal film 2 on one surface of a substrate 1 and a nonmagnetic metal film 6 (back coat film) on the other surface of the substrate is optional and since the surface of the back coat film of the recording medium thus manufactured is not too smooth, or rather, comparatively rough, the medium has an adequate friction coefficient such that the sticking phenomenon of the medium at the time of allowing it to travel hardly occurs. Thus, the objective recording medium having good traveling properties and excellent characteristics with respect to recording and reproduction can be manufactured.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a thin film producing device provided with a waveguide for suppressing the generation of electric discharge in the waveguide. CONSTITUTION: This thin film producing device is provided with a microwave CVD device 1 for introducing a microwave into a plasma excitation chamber 13 through a waveguide 12, converting a raw gas introduced into the chamber 13 to plasma with the microwave and irradiating a material to be vapor- deposited with the ion in the plasma and a device 2 to travel the material. The waveguide is packed with a material for suppressing an electric discharge. Consequently, an electric discharge is not generated in the waveguide 12, and the microwave output is increased, as required.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a highly durable medium by interposing a substance having a hydrophilic group and a hydrophobic group between a magnetic layer of a metallic thin film type and a protecting layer. CONSTITUTION:A Co magnetic metal film 2 is formed by an oblique vapor deposition method or the like manner on a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film 1. A solution of toluene including a silane-based coupling agent having a hydrophilic group and a hydrophobic group, or the like is applied on the surface of the film 2, to form a coupling agent, layer 3. A diamond-like carbon film 4 is formed on the layer 3. Then, a fluoric inert liquid is applied on the film 4 to form a lubricating layer 5. Accordingly, a highly durable medium is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve a durability of a lubricating function of a protecting film by forming fine recessed parts in a diamond-like carbon film set on a recording film and interposing a lubricant. CONSTITUTION:A diamond-like carbon film 13 is set by a CVD device or the like on the surface of a Co magnetic film 12. Then, the film 13 is processed by plasma etching, hereby fine holes 14 are formed with a predetermined surface density. A fluoric lubricant is applied on a surface of the film 13. Ultrasonic vibrations are applied to the film 13 for a predetermined time. Accordingly, such a medium that runs well for a long time, has superior recording/ reproducing properties and is sufficiently durable, is obtained.

CONSTITUTION:For protecting the surface of a magnetic recording medium in which a magnetic film by the fine powder of a magnetic metal by Fe, Co or Ni-base metals or alloys is formed on one side of a wide, long and thin suppporting body by a nonmagnetic polymer material by a vacuum deposition method or the like, the metal magnetic film of a magnetic recording medium 11 is wound in a state in which it is not abutted on a columnar cooling can roll 12 through a guide roll 13. While it is conveyed at a high speed of about 50m/, the space of an electrode sheet 14 and the cooling can roll 12 is fed with gaseous hydrocarbon such as benzene as a carbon source, high frequency voltage is impressed between the space of the cooling can roll 12 and electrode sheet 14 by an electric source 15 to generate plasma discharge, and carbon produced by the thermal decomposition of benzene is formed on the metal magnetic film as a diamond-like carbon protective film.

CONSTITUTION:A magnetic film 2 of Co is formed on a PET film 1 by depositing Co particles using a diagonal vapor deposition device. A diamondlike carbon film 3 is formed on the magnetic film 2 with benzene and carbon dioxide as reactive gases using a CVD device. The surface layer of the film 3 is then modified by irradiation with IR laser beams having 8,000Angstrom wavelength or electron beams having 100eV at 1 deg. incident angle to form a graphite film 4.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify a producing process, to reduce cost and to obtain a high quality magnetic recording medium by carrying out stages from the formation of a metallic magnetic film to the application of a lubricant in vacuum vessels. CONSTITUTION:A metallic magnetic film is formed on a substrate 1 made of a PET film by diagonal vapor deposition in a 1st vacuum vessel A and a metallic protective film is formed on the magnetic film in 100Angstrom thickness by CVD in a 2nd vacuum vessel B. The PET film 1 with the magnetic film and the protective film is allowed to run into a 3rd vacuum vessel C having about 1X10 Torr degree of vacuum, the film 1 is brought into contact with a heating roll 2 and a lubricant soln. is sprayed on the protective film on the film 1 from an ultrasonic spray nozzle 3. The lubricant soln. is prepd. by diluting Demnum S(R) as a lubricant with perfluoro-polyether to 0.1wt.% concn. After drying with the heating roll 2 and a heating lamp 4, the film 1 is wound around a winding roll 5 and then slit to about 8mm width to obtain the objective magnetic tape for 8mm VTR.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the traveling performance while eliminating the warp by providing a thin metal film forming means for forming a back coat film, and an abrasive means for making coarse the surface of back coat film thus formed. CONSTITUTION:At the position of a cooling can roll, a back coat film (Cu-Al film) is formed and then it is made coarse by a coarsening means 10. Subsequently, the back coat film is fed through an oxygen bombard processor 9b and wound about a winding roll 3b. The back coat thus produced has an appropriate surface roughness for lowering the frictional coefficient and enhancing the traveling performance thus realizing enhancement in the recording/reproducing characteristics.
