    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing sintered shapes, comprising the steps of: (1) forming a green body from a mixture comprising a major amount of at least one inorganic powder; and one or more additives selected from the group consisting of: (A) at least one reaction product of a hydroxy compound with a carboxylic acylating agent; (B) at least one Mannich reaction product; (C) at least one hydrocarbyl-substituted amine; (D) at least one aminophenol; (E) at least one reaction product of a nitrophenol and amino compound; (F) at least one basic nitrogen-containing polymer; (G) at least one carboxylic acylating agent; (H) at least one aromatic acid or derivative thereof; (I) at least one aromatic oxime; and (J) at least one overbased or gelled overbased metal salt of an acidic organic compound provided that when the carboxylic acylating agent is a hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acylating agent and the hydrocarbyl group contains less than an average of 40 carbon atoms, then the carboxylic acylating agent is a polycarboxylic acylating agent; and (2) sintering the green body. Sintered shapes made from the compositions of the present invention have relatively high fired densities and grain sizes; and relatively low pore volume. (

    Abstract: The invention relates to methods of preparing sintered shapes (shaped articles) comprising the steps of forming a green body from a mixture comprising (A) a major amount of at least one inorganic powder with (B) at least one reaction product of an amine other than an alkanolamine with a hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acylating agent or alkylalkyleneglycolacetic acylating agent; provided the reaction product is other than an alkylene oxide treated fatty monocarboxylic amide and provided that when the hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acylating agent is a nonaromatic acylating agent, then the hydrocarbyl group is other than hydrocarbyl groups having an average of about 55 to about 110 carbon atoms; and sintering the green body. Sintered shapes obtainable from the methods of the present invention have relatively high fired densities and small uniform grain sizes and low porosity.

    Abstract: 2228-RBC-01 Title: SULFUR-CONTAINING COMPOSITIONS, AND ADDITIVE CONCENTRATES, LUBRICATING OILS, METAL WORKING LUBRICANTS AND ASPHALT COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING SAME Sulfur-containing compositions are described which are prepared by sulfurizing (A) at least one fatty acid ester of a polyhydric alcohol, or (B) at least one fatty acid, fatty acid ester of a monohydric alcohol, or a mixture thereof, or (C) at least one other olefin, or (D) mixtures of any two or more of (A), (B) and (C), in the presence of a catalytic amount of (E) at least one salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of the formula R1(R2)N-CSSH wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrocarbyl groups, or (F) at least one mercapto benzothiazole, or (G) mixtures of (E) and (F). Preferably, various mixtures of (A), (B) and (C) are sulfurized in accordance with the invention. The incorporation of a catalytic amount of salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of Formula I or at least one mercapto benzothiazole (or mixtures thereof) results in the preparation of sulfurized compositions which are characterized by excellent oil solubility and higher sulfur contents, and the compositions generally are lighter in color when compared to sulfurized compositions prepared in the absence of such catalysts. The sulfurized compositions prepared in accordance with the present invention are useful as general purpose antioxidants and friction modifiers for lubricating compositions and automatic transmission fluids and in particular, as additives in metal working lubricants. The abovedescribed sulfurized compositions as well as sulfurized compositions prepared in the absence of catalysts (E) and/or (F) are useful in asphalt compositions.

    Abstract: The present invention contemplates the provision of two-compo-nent urethane coating compositions comprising a first component comprising an organic polyfunctional isocyanate, and a second component comprising an acidic ester of a phosphoric acid, the alcohol portions of said acidic acid being selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyloxy and hydroxysubstituted hydrocarbyloxy compounds, such compositions providing enhanced corrosion resistance properties as well as improved flame retardency and metal adhesion characteristics over the two-component urethane systems of the prior art. An essential ingredient in the compositions of the invention is a non-Newtonian colloidal disperse system which can be provided with either the first component and/or the second component parts of the compositions of the invention. The non-Newtonian colloidal disperse systems provided in accordance with the present invention comprise (1) solid metal-containing colloidal particles predispersed in (2) a disperse medium of at least one inert organic liquid and (3) as an essential third component at least one member selected from the class consisting of organic compounds which are substantially soluble in said disperse medium, the molecules of said organic compound being characterized by polar substituents and hydrophobic portions. The invention also relates to a method of coating a substrate comprising mixing the foregoing components and depositing the resulting composition on said substrate.

    Abstract: N-acylated aminohydrocarbyl sulfonic acids or acid derivative compositions are described which are characterized by the presence with the structure of at least one acyl, acylimidoyl or acyloxy group attached to the amino nitrogen, said groups being derived from at least one of the carboxylic acid groups contained in an interpolymer of (i) at least one vinyl aromatic monomer and (ii) at least one alpha, beta-unsaturated acid or derivative thereof. Aqueous systems also are described which comprise at least about 40% of water and the N-acylated amino hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid or salt composition of the invention. The hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid or salt compositions of the present invention are useful as emulsifiers, thickeners, dispersants, etc. in the aqueous systems, and the compositions also are useful as additives in fuels and lubricants.
