The channel is divided (by TDD) into slots which are allocated to either uplink communication or downlink communication by the base station in each cell. Abstract: In a UMTS network in which a single user can transmit or receive a number of services having different transmission power requirements over a single channel, a method of determining for each service the number of bits to be punctured or repeated to provide rate matching by the steps of deriving for each service the Energy per Bit per Noise density EB/NO required to achieve a desired Bit Error Rate; from each EB/MO deriving a value of the Energy per coded Symbol per Noise density ES/NO; and from ES/NO deriving a rate matching factor by which that ES/NO can be matched to the minimum Energy per coded Symbol per Noise density applicable to the channel in which the services are multiplexed. The values of EB/NO are stored in a look up table in the BTS and each mobile; the BSC generates values of semi static rate matching factors and spreading factors for each service and transmits them to the BTS and mobiles so that the mobile can calculate from the received values and the values stored in the look up table the number of bits to be punctured or repeated.

Abstract: The invention relates to the controlling of quality of services of a CDMA-based-System. An object of the invention is to provide an improved control mechanism for the quality of services in a CDMA-System, in particular by providing a controlling means apt to assign the target signal to interference ratio, the static rate matching factor and the power-offset dynamically, especially adapted to be used for UMTS-Systems. The invention proposes and uses a dynamic quality control for adjusting quality of services of a CDMA-based System transmitting a plurality of different services between the system and a user equipment by using at least one data channel (DPDCH) with the services multiplexed and rate matching technique applied and an associated control channel (DPCCH) wherein parameters representing transmitting properties concerning the quality of service, advantageously representing a signal to interference ratio (SIR) for the control channel (DPCCH), a static rate matching factor (SRF) for each service and a power-offset (G) between the control channel (DPCCH) and the data channel (DPDCH) are derived for each service to achieve desired quality of services, during an installation process based on default quality (1,2) requirements and during an operating condition dynamically in dependence of quality estimates (1,5) performed on each of that services during data transmission.

Abstract: A time division multiple access communication system is disclosed, in which down link data are transmitted over a data channel in repeated time frames each containing a plurality of time slots. Down link set up information is transmitted over a control channel to indicate from which time slot a user terminal should extract data. Each frame on the data channel includes a user packet flag to indicate whether or not each time slot in the frame contains data. Each user terminal is responsive to the set up information and to the user packet flags to extract data from its assigned time slot in those frames which the slot is indicated to contain data.
