    Abstract: PURPOSE:To carry out the proper valve timing control by installing a plurality of annular pistons which generate the conversion action of the revolution phase between an outer cylindrical member connected with an engine and an inner cylindrical member connected with a camshaft, in concentric form. CONSTITUTION:Between an outer cylindrical member 4 and an inner cylindrical member 3, a plurality of annular pistons 11 and 12 are arranged in concentric form, and successively joined through a helical spline. The revolution phase between the inner cylindrical member 3 and the outer cylindrical member 4 is varied by the quantity corresponding to the displacement quantity of the annular pistons 11 and 12 and the torsional angle of the helical spline, by shifting each annular piston 11, 12 in the axial direction by the fluid pressure which varies in correspondence with the variation of the number of engine revolution. The annular piston 11 sets the meshing region of the helical spline smaller than that of another annular piston 12 meshed with the helical spline, inner cylindrical member 3 or the outer cylindrical member 4. Accordingly, the engine performance can be improved by carrying out the proper valve timing control.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of knocking sound caused by backlash, by engaging a helical spline shaft in a helical spline hole so as to relatively rotate a cam shaft and a cam pulley shaft, and by applying hydraulic oil in the helical spline meshing space. CONSTITUTION:A torque given by the rotation of a cam pulley 2 by an engine is transmitted from a helical spline hole 23 in an inner rotor 18 to a helical spline shaft 24 of a cam shaft 1, and accordingly, the cam shaft 1 and the cam 3 are rotated simultaneously with the drive of an oil pump 14. Upon change-over of valve timing, the oil pressure discharged from the oil pump 14 is fed into a hydraulic port 31 or 32 of a hydraulic cylinder 4, and a cam shaft 1 is shifted by means of a piston 5. In association with the shifting of the cam shaft 1, the cam shaft 1 and the cam pulley 2 are angularly displaced, relative to each other. Further, at this time, the pressure oil in the pump chamber 26 is fed into the helical spline meshing space through a gap 27, thereby it is possible to prevent occurrence of knocking sound caused by backlash.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a valve timing control device for an engine which can vary opening/closing timings and a lifting rate of a tappet, and has a simple and compact structure. CONSTITUTION:A first and a second rotational members 17, 20 which respectively are in press-contact with a rear end of a cam shaft 3 for united rotation are provided. The first rotational member 17 is screwed with the second rotational member 20 through a screwing part 25. When rotational phase difference is generated between the rotational members 17 and 20, the rotational members 17 and 20 are relatively displaced in a front and back direction, and the can shaft 3 is moved in the front and back direction. The rotation of the first and second rotational members 17, 20 is stopped by means of a first and a second stoppers 27, 29, so that the cam shaft 3 is moved in the front and back direction, and a valve timing control device 7 is simplified.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To compact the whole of a valve system by setting each cam surface of driving cams and oscillating cams so that an acceleration component by the oscillating cams becomes larger than an acceleration component by the driving cams in a positive acceleration region in an acceleration characteristic of valve lift. CONSTITUTION:Cam shapes of cam surfaces 7a, 8a of each of driving cams 7, 8 and cam surfaces 41, 51 of each of oscillating cams 4, 5 are set so that an acceleration component by the oscillating cams 4, 5 becomes larger than an acceleration component by the driving cams 7, 8 in a positive acceleration region in an acceleration characteristic of valve lift. Consequently, the oscillating cams 4, 5 can secure the maximum valve lift of a valve at a smaller oscillating angle and can shorten cam noses of the driving cams 7, 8 to drive them by the amount of the oscillating angle of the oscillating cams 4, 5 reduced. Consequently, it is possible to compact a valve system.

CONSTITUTION:An oscillating cam 12 is oscillated in the slidably contacted condition with an intake or an exhaust valve 10 of the engine through a lash adjuster 11, and the valve 10 is lifted by the oscillation. A fundamental circular part 12b not to lift the valve 10 even when being brought into contact in a slidable manner, and a lift circular part 12c to lift the valve 10 when being brought into contact in a slidable manner are formed on a cam surface 12a of the oscillating cam 12. A roller 16 is abutted a driving cam 14, and oscillated followed by the rotation of the driving cam 14, and at the same time, the roller is held by the oscillating cam 12 so as to oscillate the oscillating cam 12. The opening/closing timing of the valve 10 is changed when the distance between the point of contact of the roller 16 where the fundamental circular part 12b of the oscillating cam 12 is brought into slidable contact with the valve 10 and the center of oscillation of the oscillating cam 12 is changed.

SOLUTION: A camshaft rotation detecting sensor comprises a rotating plate 8 mounted on a camshaft 1 for driving an intake valve or an exhaust valve of an engine and a cam position sensor 7 mounted on a cylinder head cover 11. The rotating plate 8 is disposed between a journal part 1a provided on one end part side of the camshaft 1 and the installation part of a cam body 14 provided at the center part side of the camshaft 1, and an oil control valve 6 for feeding oil to oil paths 9 and 10 formed in the one end part of the camshaft 1 is disposed on the upper part of the journal part 1a. Then a cam position sensor 7 is installed aslant at a position adjacent to the oil control valve 6 so that it faces the part to be detected 8a of the rotating plate 8.
