Abstract: 3,3'- or 3,4'-diamino benzophenone is prepared by catalytically reducing and dehalogenating, in the presence of a reduction catalyst and a dehydrohalogenation agent, a benzophenone compound or benzophenone compounds of the general formula in which X is a halogen atom at position 2 or 4 of the benzene ring and Y is hydrogen or a halogen atom and in which the nitro group is at position 3' or 4' of the benzene ring if Y is hydrogen, while Y is at position 4' and the nitro group is at position 3' of the benzene ring if Y is a halogen atom.

Abstract: Disclosed is a color-developing composition for pressure-sensitive recording sheet material of the self-contained type comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a copolymer obtained by reacting a p-alkylphenol having an alkyl moiety of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and phenol with formaldehyde and (B) from 1 to 20 parts by weight of a hindered phenolic compound selected from phenols having an alkyl, alkylene or hydroxyl substituent radical in at least the 2- or 6-position, or both, of the benzene ring and derivatives thereof, the copolymer and the hindered phenolic compound being homogeneously dissolved in mutual solution. The hindered phenolic compound is either added to the starting materials for the preparation of the copolymer or, at the end of the copolymerization reaction, added to the resulting copolymer and dissolved homogeneously in mutual solution.

Abstract: There is here disclosed a method for preparing an alkoxyphthalocyanine represented by the formula (1): wherein each of Rs is independently a secondary alkyl group having 3 to 20 carbon atoms, Met is a divalent metal atom or an oxy metal, and the substitution positions of -ORs are the 1- or 4-position, the 5- or 8-position, the 9- or 12 position, and the 13- or 16-position, which comprises the steps of heating a mixture of 3-alkoxyphthalonitrile and an organic base in an alcohol to 90-120 DEG C, adding a metal derivative at the same temperature, and then carrying out reaction, or alternatively the step of reacting a mixture of a 1,3-diimino-4-alkoxyisoindoline and a metal derivative in the presence or absence of an organic base in an aliphatic alcohol having 6 or more carbon atoms. In addition, the ratio of isomers of the alkoxyphthalocyanine can be controlled by regulating the addition time of the organic base.

Abstract: Bis(3-nitrophenoxy) derivatives of aromatic or bridged aromatic hydrocarbons are derived from m-dinitrobenzene and dihydroxy derivatives of said hydrocarbons by a condensation reaction in dipolar aprotic solvents in the presence of bases. The bis(3-nitrophenoxy) derivatives obtained are successively reduced to afford bis-(3-aminophenoxy) derivatives. This is a new method for reacting the dihydroxy-derivatives with m-dinitrobenzene, and hence can prepare novel bis(3-aminophenoxy) derivatives such as 4,4 min -bis(3-aminophenoxy)biphenyl, 1-[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]-1,3,3-trimethyl-6-(3-aminophenoxy)indan, 6,6 min -bis(3-aminophenoxy)-3,3,3 min ,3 min -tetramethyl-1,1 min spirobiindan, and methyl substituted 2,2 min -bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane.

(ORn) (I) wherein Dye is a light-absorbing compound residue having at least one aromatic ring; OR1 to ORn are substituents on the aromatic ring, and are independently (a) substituted or unsubstituted saturated hydrocarbonoxy groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, or (b) substituted or unsubstituted unsaturated hydrocarbonoxy groups having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and at least one of OR1 to ORn is an unsaturated hydrocarbonoxy group; and n is a value of from 1 to 10. The present invention also provides an optical recording medium containing the above-mentioned light-absorbing compound in a recording layer.
