    Abstract: An integral phase shifting network (215,216,217) of a transmitter filter (104) provides a means to reduce the size and increase the efficiency of an antenna coupling network. The network to shift the phase of the transmitter filter (104) is printed by depositing conductive material directly on a ceramic block (230) using low-loss circuit elements and can be tuned easily by removing conductive material if required in certain applications. By utilizing an integral phase shifting network (215,216,217), either transmit filter (104) or receive filter (112) having a highly reactive and capacitive out-of-band impedance in the receive or transmit band, respectively, can be connected to a common antenna port without external transmission lines.

    Abstract: An off-channel leakage power monitor implemented in a transceiver (100) dynamically measures adjacent and alternate channel leakage power produced by nonlinearities in a transmitter (110) power amplifier (116). A main local oscillator (124), offset voltage-controlled oscillator (122), and second local oscillator (170) are adjusted to obtain on-channel power, adjacent channel power, and alternate channel power measurements using a measurement calculator (185) implemented in a digital signal processor (180) or as a gate array in a receiver (140). Once the off-channel leakage power measurements have been obtained, any number of techniques can be used to extract increased efficiency from the power amplifier (116) while maintaining acceptable linearity under changing operating conditions.

    Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) coupler apparatus (312) suited for use in a multi-band wireless communication device (200), has a termination device (316) and couplers (314 and 315). Each of the couplers (314 and 315) has through-path coupling elements (318 and 320) and coupled-path coupling elements (319 and 321). Through-path coupling elements (318 and 320) pass a RF signal that is to be transmitted respective frequency bands (TX BAND 1, TX BAND 2) within which the device (200) operates. Coupled-path coupling elements (319 and 321) couple the RF signals passed by respective through-path coupling elements (318 and 320). The coupled-path coupling elements (319 and 321) and the termination device (316) are coupled in series, thereby permitting compatibility with a RF power detector (313) that uses a single detection diode (322).
