    Abstract: A method of displaying a promotional message by an electronic price label (EPL) which stores promotional messages and corresponding promotional indicators in a memory within the EPL. Once the promotional messages are stored within the memory of the EPL, the promotional messages no longer need to be sent by a controlling computer each time a promotional message must be displayed by the EPL. The controlling computer transmits a promotional indicator to the EPL. The EPL compares the promotional indicator in the message with the promotional indicators stored within the memory. The EPL displays a promotional message associated with one of the promotional indicators within the memory if the promotional indicator in the memory and the promotional indicator in the message are equal.

    Abstract: An electronic price label (EPL) system (10) which is capable of simultaneously displaying price information in a plurality of different currencies is provided. The computer (12) sends messages to the EPL (22) instructing the EPL (22) to display primary currency price information in the first portion of the display (56) and secondary currency price information in the second portion of the display (56).

    Abstract: A scheduled price verification system and method which ensure that a scheduled price change has been scheduled for an electronic price label (EPL) (22) associated with an item.     Abstract: The present invention relates to an electronic price label system and in particular to a transaction data recovery system and method which provide backups for the primary price look-up (PLU) data file (44) and the primary electronic price label (EPL) data file (32). The transaction system includes an electronic price label system (16) and a point-of-service system (14). Under an EPL system data recovery method, primary and backup EPL data files (32,34) are provided. The backup EPL data file (34) is loaded by a computer terminal upon a loss of the primary EPL data file (32). Finally, the backup EPL data file is modified if the backup EPL data file lacks information on at least one of the EPLs within the system. Under a price data recovery method, primary and backup PLU data files (44,46) are provided. The backup PLU data file is loaded by a computer terminal upon a loss of the primary PLU data file. Price verifier information located within an EPL data file is modified if at least one of the EPLs within the system fails to display the price within the backup PLu data file.
