Abstract: PURPOSE:To save power consumption by varying voltage supply to a backlight in accordance with the brightness of a detected periphery. CONSTITUTION:A signal corresponding to the quantity of peripheral light is outputted from a photodetector 1 and inputted to respective comparators 3 to 7 through an amplifier 2. Voltages V1 to V4 obtained by dividing a reference voltage V0 generated from a reference voltage generating circuit 8 by resistors R0 are respectively inputted to the other inputs of respective comparators 3 to 7. The outputs C3 to C7 of respective comparators 3 to 7 are encoded by an electro-luminescence (EL) voltage generating circuit 9 and a lighting voltage for an EL backlight 10 is outputted from the circuit 9. When only the comparator 7 is ON, i.e. the periphery is dark, the output of the circuit 9 is also downed, and when the comparators 6 to 4 are successively turned on, the output voltage of the circuit 9 is increased in stages. Consequently, the backlight is automatically turned on and off and its power consumption is saved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the duty of the display of an LCD and increase the contrast of the display of the LCD by putting an address space in reverse longitudinal/lateral relation and forming a laterally long address space for access to a display memory from an LCD control circuit. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 reads a character to be displayed out of a character generator 2 and writes it in a display memory 4 through an address control circuit 3. Further, an LCD control circuit 5 accesses the display memory 4 through the address control circuit 3 to control the display on the LCD 6. Then the order of the bits constituting an address from the LCD control circuit 5 is changed to invert some of the bits, and the address is inputted to the display memory 4 to place the address space in reverse longitudinal/lateral relation, thereby accessing the display memory with the laterally long address space. Consequently, the display duty becomes small and the contrast of the display is increased.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To control the luminance by software, to eliminate the need of a control, a knob, etc., for the operation and to reduce the cost by providing an illuminance detecting means for detecting the illuminance of the outside of a device, and a luminance adjusting means for adjusting the luminance of a liquid crystal display in accordance with a result of this detection. CONSTITUTION:The system is provided with an illuminance detecting means 27 for detecting the illuminance of the outside of a device, and a luminance adjusting means 26 for adjusting the luminance of a liquid crystal display (LCD) is accordance with a result of this detection. That is, the illuminance sensor 27 is provided on the outside of a housing of a portable terminal, and in accordance with the illuminance obtained by this illuminance sensor 27, the luminance of the LCD is adjusted automatically by software in accordance with the LCD. In such a way, by setting a data bus at the time of executing an OUT instruction of a main body side CPU, the luminance of the LCD can be adjusted, and since the luminance is adjusted automatically, it becomes unnecessary that an operator adjusts the luminance by operating a control, a knob, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To continue a processing under execution after exchanging a battery bag by providing a contact at a knob for detaching the battery bag and executing an interruption processing by a CPU while operating this contact before power supply is disconnected by pulling the battery bag off. CONSTITUTION:A contact 3 is fitted to a knob 2 for detaching a battery bag 1 so as to be operated while being interlocked with the knob, and a capacitor 6 with large capacity is parallelly inserted to a power supply line parallelly with the battery bag 1. When the knob 2 for detaching is suddenly pushed for detaching the battery bag 1 while turning a power source on, the contact 3 is operated. This operation is detected by an interruption control circuit 5 and an NM 1 signal is generated to request the interruption processing with the highest priority order to a CPU 4. Then, the CPU 4 immediately stop the processing under execution. Thus, even when the battery bag 1 is suddenly pulled off, the processing under execution can be continued after the recovery, and stored data can be prevented from being destroyed or deleted.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect a fingerprint image having a wide detection area, and being free from a graphic distortion, by detecting a fingerprint image of a finger which is pressed against the curved surface of a curved glass body. CONSTITUTION:An image sensor 1-2 and an illuminator 1-3 are fixed in such a position relation as satisfies a total reflection condition, on the inner wall surface of a curved glass body 1-1. This image sensor 1-2 detects and outputs an image on the inner wall surface of the curved glass body 1-1 by an optical fiber lens 1-6. A difference of intensities of light beams reflected from a part which the skin has touched and a part which the skin does not touch is converted to an electric signal by the image sensor 1-2 and detected. A main scan and a sub-scan are executed by a self-scan of the one-dimensional image sensor, and mechanically, that is, by a pulse motor 1-4, respectively. In such a way, a fingerprint image of a finger which is pressed against the curved glass body 1-1 can be detected along the curved surface.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the processing efficiency by inputting data from an external bus, to a queue memory in the interval of an output of a data memory, in accordance with an instruction which has been set optionally to a function table memory, at the time of initializing. CONSTITUTION:First of all, initial set data is sent out by a host processor unit. This initial set data is data for setting first an instruction required for processing and an instruction of control information, etc., to a function table memory 3, a data memory 4 and a link table memory 2. Especially, the data which is set to the memory 3 and 2 is called a template. The execution data is inputted to the inside of an annular bus through a bus interface 1 from an external circuit, and sent to a queue memory 5. A processor unit 6 is operated in accordance with the template, and inputs the data from the interface 1, to the memory 5 by utilizing the interval of an output from the memory 4.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize the radio frequency by converting the opposite party number, a message identifier and the character string inputted to a character variable field into tone signals and transmitting these signals to a transmitting destination pager. SOLUTION: A message list stored in a storage part 40 is first shown at a display part 20. Then a desired character string to be designated is inputted by handwriting, via a touch panel 10. The inputted characters are inputted again to a processing part 30 as the stroke data. The part 30 recognizes the characters based on the recognition dictionary data of a storage part 40 and stores the characters in the part 40 as the character variable field data on a regular message. Then a list of telephone numbers is shown on the part 20, and a desired opposite party to be sent is selected. When an input operation is over, a tone signal generation part 50 is pressed against a transmitter part, and the start for transmission is instructed. Thus, a message consisting of each process is converted into tone signals for every character and transmitted. These transmitted tone signals are sent to the opposite party terminal as radio waves from a base station.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it easy to see from the outside how many times a rechargeable battery is charged up so as to easily discriminate between the repeated life of the battery and failure even if a rechargeable battery pack fails. CONSTITUTION:A voltage comparator 2 compares the voltage of a rechargeable battery 1 with voltage generated by a reference voltage generator 3 and outputs '1' when the voltage of the rechargeable battery 1 is higher than that of the reference voltage generator 3, i.e. when the battery is charged up. Signals output from the voltage comparator 2 are inputted to a counter 4 and accumulated there and counted. The content of the counter 4 thus indicates how many times the rechargeable battery 1 is charged up. The counter 4 has a spare battery and is therefore capable of holding its content even if the rechargeable battery 1 is overcharged. The result of counting by the counter 4 is input to a display 5 and displayed to an operator as a numerical value.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect how many times a battery charger is charged up to now from the outside by detecting the identification of the charging and discharging based on the direction of the flowing current, counting the number of times, and displaying the result in a battery charger pack. CONSTITUTION:A minute resistor (the value is smaller than the internal impedance of the cell of a battery charger 1) 2 is connected to the battery charger 1 such as an Ni-Cd battery in series. A voltage comparator 3 compares the voltage across both ends A-B of the resistor 2. When the voltage at the end A (B) is higher, '1 (0)' is outputted. At this time, 1 is outputted at the time of discharging from the comparator 3, and 0 is outputted at the time of charging. In a counter 4, the number of the signals 0 outputted from the comparator 3, i.e., the number of the charging times of the battery charger 1, is accumulated. The counter 4 has the reserve battery, and the content can be maintained even if the battery charger 1 is excessively discharged. The counted result of the counter 4, i.e., the number of the charging times, is inputted into a display device (e.g. an LCD of a 7-segment type which can display the number of 3 digits) 5, and the numerical value is notified to an operator.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To quickly detect an abnormality leaked current from a circuit to be backed up and prevent the consumption of a backup battery by constituting the memory backup power supply circuit so as to detect the abnormality of a memory backup current value. CONSTITUTION:When a backup current value applied to a load is increased from a normal value due to any cause, the voltage applied to both the ends of a resistor 5 is increased in proportion to the increment of a backup current value. Therefore, if a digital value equal to a voltage value corresponding to the normal value of the backup current value is previously stored in a register 7, a backup value larger than the normal value is decided as an abnormal current. A comparator 8 has an abnormality deciding function, and when a detected backup current value is larger than the normal value, '1' is outputted. If a device power supply is turned on at the time of generating the output '1', an alarm such as a buzzer or a display is generated. Consequently, the consumption of the backup battery can quickly be detected.
