Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a gas discharge display panel by which the sealing strength of both substrates can be increased while minimizing the sacrifice of a display region generated by an existing sealing material. CONSTITUTION:A front substrate 12 consisting of a transparent insulated material, on which a plurality of transparent positive electrodes 20 are formed, and a back substrate 14 consisting of an insulated material on which a plurality of negative electrodes 22 are formed, are superimposed on one another so that the electrodes of the substrates cross with one another at a specific interval, and a discharge cell 24 is formed on each part at which both electrodes cross with one another. The peripheries of the substrates 12, 14 are sealed airtight through a sealing material 16, to make an envelope 18, and discharging gas is filled in the envelope 18, while the negative electrode 22 is guided to the surface of the non-superimposed part 14b of the back substrate, and a gas discharge display panel 10 is formed there by connecting a negative electrode end part 22a to an external terminal 26. The sealing material 16 is arranged not only between the opposed surface 12a of the front substrate and the opposed surface 14a of the back substrate but also on the side surface 12c of the front substrate.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase light emission efficiency in a discharge cell, and provide display of an extremely high brightness by forming a columnar cathode which is embedded in a cathode holding layer on one end side, and protruded out of the cathode holding layer on the other end side. CONSTITUTION:A columnar cathode 20 which is embedded in a cathode holding layer 22 on one end side, and protruded out of the layer 22 on the other end side is formed to stand in a surface of a cathode pulling pattern 18. A DC voltage is applied between a transparent electrode 24 and the cathode 20 to generate discharge inside a discharge cell 30, and UV-ray is generated. This UV-ray excites phosphor 32 in the cell 30, and light having a specified emission color is radiated through the anode 24 and a front surface substrate 14 to the external. This voltage application is executed selectively through a control and drive circuit to generate discharge light emission in the desired cell 30, and a desired character or figure can be displayed on the substrate 14. At this time, not only an upper end part of the cathode 20 but also a side circumferential surface of it contribute to discharge, and it is radiated sufficiently to the phosphor 32 as well, thereby extremely high brightness display can be provided.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the display panel which can suppress the resonance of substrates while maintaining the specified spacing between a pair of substrates constituting the display panel without respectively separately providing spacers and supporting materials. CONSTITUTION:This display panel 2 is formed with a 1st space part 30 between a front substrate 4 and a rear substrate 6 by disposing the substrate 4 and the substrate 6 so as to face each other via a prescribed spacing and hermetically sealing the peripheral edges 24 and 26 of the electrode forming surfaces of both substrates with a 1st sealing material 28. The 1st spacer 32 is formed on the electrode forming surface 35 of the rear substrate 6. This 1st spacer 32 is fixed to the electrode forming surface 42 of the front substrate via the supporting material 28 constituted of the material having the m.p. lower than the m.p. of the material constituting the 1st spacer 32.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a connecting space small by forming a gas-tight envelope of heat resistant insulating matter where a voltage nonlinear resistance and a discharge gap are enclosed connected in parallel to each other, forming the bottom of the envelope flat, and forming external electrodes at both ends of it. CONSTITUTION:A chip type surge absorbing element 1 consists of a box-like case 2 with the bottom surface flat and the top open and with external electrodes 3, 3 formed to cover both ends of it, and having a pair of discharge electrodes 5, 5 and a voltage nonlinear resistance 6 connected from the electrodes 3, 3 into the case 2. Discharge gas mainly including Ne, He, Ar or other rare gas and N gas is filled in the case 2, the opening is closed with a cover 7, and a sealing matter 8 is put to close the circumference under it, so a gas-tight envelope 9 of a rectangular parallelopiped is formed. A discharge gap 10 formed between the discharge electrodes 5, 5 and the resistance 6 are enclosed in the envelope 9 connected in parallel to each other. By putting the cover 7 to drop into a cut part 2a in the envelope 9, the top surface of the envelope 9 is made flat, so the top and the bottom surfaces of the envelope become attachment surfaces for circuit boards.

SOLUTION: A phosphor fluid dispersion in which phosphor/inorganic bonding material solid is dispersed by PVC at 50-800% is applied on the outer circumference of the ultraviolet radiation lamp made of ultraviolet transmission glass tube, and then by firing this, a phosphor layer is formed. The ultraviolet rays irradiated from the ultraviolet radiation lamp excite the phosphor and make it illuminant.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gaseous discharge display panel where the disabling of discharge cells except the damaged part thereof can be prevented without disconnecting a transparent electrode in itself even when the transparent electrode located on the front base board side is damaged in one of the discharge cells, and where the dot pitch of the discharge cell can be set smaller than conventional one by enabling reduction in width of a partition wall between the transparent electrodes. SOLUTION: This display panel includes a back base board 12 juxtaposed with a band-like cathode 18, and a front base board 14 juxtaposed with transparent anode 24. The back base board 12 and the front base board 14 are arranged in such a manner that the electrodes of the base boards intersects each other at a predetermined spacing to form a discharge cell 30 for every intersection of the electrodes. An envelope 16 is constituted by air-tightly sealing peripheral edges of the base boards 12 and 14. A discharge gas is confined inside the envelope 16, and moreover, a plurality of first barrier plates 28a are formed on an electrode formation surface 14a of the front base board 14 in order to separate the transparent electrodes 24. In this case, the display panel is constructed in such a manner as to cover side parts 24a and 24b of the transparent electrodes 24 with a transparent glass layer 26.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a gas discharge display panel by which a phosphor can be easily and firmly coating formed with required thickness in a wide range even to the inner face of a discharge cell provided with a complicated shape, and the chance of discharge electrode damage is lessened caused by post-treatment. SOLUTION: A front face substrate 14, made of plural transparent anodes 24-formed transparent insulation material and a back face substrate 12 made of plural ridge-like cathodes 20-formed insulation material are confronting arranged so as to form plural discharge cells 30 between both electrodes. Barrier ribs 22 surrounding the respective discharge cells 30 are formed on the confronting face of the back face substrate 12, the peripheral edges of both substrates are airtightly sealed so as to form an envelope 16, and a phosphor 24 and ultraviolet ray radiation gas are sealed in the envelope 16 so as to manufacture a discharge display panel 10. After the phosphor 24 is coating formed on the barrier rib 22 inner faces and the surfaces of ridge-like cathode tip portions 20b by plasma thermal spraying, the phosphors 24 covering the tip portions 20b are removed.

The front/back substrates 14, 12 are oppositely arranged with a prescribed space apart, to form a discharge cell 30 between the electrodes, and peripheral edges of both the substrates are sealed to mold an air-tight vessel 16, so as to seal its inside with discharge gas containing Xe as an ultraviolet radiation gas and a phosphor 32.

In a gas discharge display panel 10 where the discharge gas is sealed inside, a plurality of first bulkhead 26a of front side barrier ribs 26 to partition each transparent electrode 24 are continuously formed on an electrode forming surface of the front substrate 14, and the transverse width W of each transparent electrode 24 is set to be larger than the space P between the first bulkheads 26a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve display characteristics, and form a first electrode of metal material of a small resistance value and having color by forming a black mask layer on a facing surface of a front surface base plate, and parting the front surface base plate into display cells corresponding to discharge cells. CONSTITUTION:Plural lines of cathodes 20 and a cathode base body 18 are provided in parallel on a facing surface 12a of a backing base plate 12. A mask layer comprising mask belts 26a, 26b perpendicular to each other are formed on a facing surface 14a of a front surface base plate 14, and display cells 28 of the front surface base plate are composed. A belt anode 30 comprising a good conductive metal and a grid of an anode side barrier rib 32 comprising insulation material are formed on a facing surface 14a of the front surface base plate 14. Peripheral edges of both base plates 12, 14 are gas-tightly sealed through sealing material to form an enclosure 16. When a DC voltage of a discharge starting voltage or more is applied between the anode 30 and the cathode 20, discharge is generated in the discharge cell 34 and light having a specified light emission color is radiated through the front surface base plate 14 to the outside.
