    Abstract: This nitrocellulose-free varnish contains at least one resin in a solvent system for varnishes, and is characterized in that the said resin is a copolymer containing units resulting from the copolymerization: (1) of 20 to 70% of at least one alkyl acrylate or methacrylate of general formula: (I) in which: R' denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, and R denotes a saturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon chain containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and (2) of 30 to 80% of at least one hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate of general formula: (II) in which: R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical and R2 denotes a linear or branched hydrocarbon chain containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and 1 or 2 hydroxyl(s), it being understood that the said copolymer cannot contain more than 30% of units derived from the copolymerization of an alkyl acrylate and/or a hydroxyalkyl acrylate, the viscosity of the copolymer at a concentration of 28% in ethyl acetate at 25 DEG C. being higher than 0.1 Pa s.

    Abstract: A cosmetic composition contained in a suitable carrier comprising at least one copolymer of acrylic or methacrylic acid, an alkyl acrylate and/or methacrylate and an allyl derivative having repetitive units which correspond to the following formulae: (1a) (1b) (1c) wherein: R1 and R2 constitute a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, R3 constitutes a linear or branched-chain alkyl radical having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R4 constitutes -OH, -NHCONH2, or -OCOR5, R5 constitutes a linear or branched-chain alkyl radical having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, x constitutes 40 to 90 weight percent, y constitutes 8 to 50 weight percent, z constitutes 2 to 25 weight percent, and the sum of x+y+z is from 80 to 100 weight percent. The cosmetic composition is especially useful as a composition for the hair and skin.
