Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the chemical and/or physical treatment of fluidizable substances in a reactor (1,1'), wherein fuel and combustion air preferably are supplied to a combustion chamber (4) upstream of the reactor and burnt at a temperature of about 1000 °C to about 1500 °C. The hot gas is introduced into the reactor interior (2) via a central tube (3). The hot gas and the central tube (3) are cooled with a coolant. Furthermore, this invention relates to a plant for performing such process.

The separation of the electrolyte aerosols from the depleted hydrogen is performed in a wet electrostatic precipitator in a hydrogen atmosphere.

Abstract: A process for the production and/or treatment of at least one metal in a reactor includes discharging a waste gas stream via a waste gas conduit and after-treating the waste gas stream by supplying a cooling gas and/or a cooling gas mixture. The after-treating includes injecting the cooling gas and/or cooling gas mixture into the waste gas conduit on a side of the waste gas conduit facing the reactor, at a high velocity and substantially tangentially with respect to a main flow direction of the waste gas. A volume of the cooling gas and/or the cooling gas mixture injected into the waste gas conduit is adjusted so as to reduce a mixing temperature below a melting temperature of the molten particles and/or a condensation temperature of the vaporous constituents of the waste gas stream.

Abstract: A direct reduction process for a metalliferous feed material, particularly for an iron-containing feed material, such as iron ore is disclosed. The process involves supplying the metalliferous material, a solid carbonaceous material, oxygen containing gas, and a fluidising gas into a fluidised bed in a vessel. The fluidised bed is maintained in the vessel, metalliferous material is partially reduced and then a product stream comprising the partially reduced metalliferous material is discharged from the vessel. The distinguishing feature in this process is that it involves a combination of a carbon rich zone (17) and the introduction of an oxygen containing gas in this zone which is then applied to cause agglomeration of the fine ore particles and thereby increase their retention time.
