Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a novel industrial microbicide containing a specific compound as active component, exhibiting excellent microbicidal effect against microorganisms such as Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts and molds and useful as a slime-controlling agent for paper industry, a preservative for textile lubricant, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains a compound of formula I (R is H, alkyl, nitro, Cl, Br or I; X is Cl or Br; m and n are 1 or 2) [e.g. 2- bromo-1-(5-methyl-2-thienyl)ethanone, 2,2-dibromo-1-(5-chloro-2-thienyl)ethanone or 2-chloro-1(2-thienyl)ethanone] as an active component. The compound of formula I can be produced by chlorinating or brominating a compound of formula II in a solvent. It is converted into a solution, emulsion, suspension, etc., by the addition of a carrier or adjuvant and used as a preservative for cutting lubricant, latex, coating color, casein, lignin, etc., or mildew-proofing agent for starch paste, paint, adhesive, pulp, etc.

It is useful for remedying erosion of the skin or mucosa, ulcer, and skin diseases such as humid tetter, etc., and used as drug or guasi-drug having the above-mentioned medicinal effects. Since the active ingredient has no irritation to the skin, it may be blended with cosmetic, it prevents skin irritations of lips and chapped skin, is expected to have soft feeling in use, to make people undergo rejuvenation, etc. An amount of the active ingredient added is 0.01-20wt% based on the whole amount of pharmaceutical preparation, preferably 0.01-5wt% in the case of cosmetic, and 1-20wt% in the case of quasi-drug.

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:Aluminum 5-methylallantoinate. USE:Useful as a medicine having improved remedial effects on peptic ulcer and high safety even on the continuous administration. In use as the remedy, any one of agents for the oral administration may be used, and the daily dose of the active constituent is about 100mg-1g for adults. PROCESS:5-Methylallantoin is added to a mixture of aluminum hydroxide with water under stirring to synthesize the titled compound. The 5-methylallantoin is obtained by reacting urea with pyruvic acid.
