    Abstract: An efficient way to perform power control and to communicate data with a base station is desired. According to an aspect, the apparatus generates a downlink grant for a device, the downlink grant indicating to the device subsets of uplink resources allocated for transmitting data segments and subsets of downlink resources for receiving power control commands for respective data segments, the subsets of the uplink resources being non-concurrent with the subsets of the downlink resources. The apparatus transmits the downlink grant to the device. The apparatus receives, from the device, a first uplink transmission in a first subset of the uplink resources based on the transmitted downlink grant. The apparatus generates a first power control command based on the received first uplink transmission. The apparatus transmits, to the device, the first power control command in a first subset of the downlink resources. The apparatus may be a base station.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for signaling and switching of beam pair links (BPLs) for directional transmission beams between a base station and a user equipment (UE). A threshold value may be determined, which corresponds to an amount of time for a UE to receive and decode control information, and apply a different BPL than a current BPL that that is in use. The UE may maintain a BPL for data, which is used during data transmission time intervals (TTIs) until an indication is received to change the BPL for data. The UE and the base station may determine to change between BPLs based at least in part on the threshold value and a scheduling offset between a control channel transmission that allocates resources for a data TTI and a start of the data TTI.

    Abstract: Wireless communication techniques that include beam training performed to aid mobile devices in identifying beams for use in communications (e.g., uplink communications) are discussed. A mobile device may transmit to a base station an indication of a level of beamforming reciprocity of the mobile device. A base station/gNB may transmit an indication of one or more transmission beams to be used by the mobile device for uplink wireless communication based on the level of beamforming reciprocity. The one or more transmission beams to be used by the mobile device for uplink communication may include a reciprocal transmission beam. A mobile device not capable of full beamforming reciprocity may determine a transmission beam through uplink beam training. A mobile device may transmit to a base station information using at least one of the one or more transmission beams. Other aspects and features are also claimed and discussed.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify a number of beam directions that satisfy a transmission power condition. The UE may select a beam direction for a random access signal by choosing one of the beam directions that satisfies additional criteria, such as transmitting a random access message at the next opportunity. The transmission power may be selected based on a target receive power and a path loss for the selected beam. In some cases, if the sum of the path loss for a beam direction and the target receive power exceeds a maximum transmission power by more than a predetermined amount, the random access signal will not be transmitted using that beam. In some cases, if a response to the random access is not received, a different beam direction may be selected, the transmission power may be increased, or both.

Because mmW and other band communications may rely on accurate beamforming to overcome link attention, the UE may need to provide beam information feedback to the base station. In particular, the UE may receive a beam-formed message from the base station during the RACH procedure. The UE may determine beam information based on the received beam-formed message during the RACH procedure. The UE may transmit a message to the base station during the RACH procedure, and the message may include the determined beam information.
