    Abstract: Techniques for performing listen before talk (LBT) channel contention procedures in a shared radio frequency spectrum band are provided. The LBT techniques may include a shortened LBT procedure that may be selected if a base station has reserved a shared channel for a duration of expected user equipment (UE) uplink transmissions, and a full LBT procedure that may be selected if the base station has not reserved the channel for the duration of expected UE uplink transmissions. The shortened LBT procedure may include detecting energy levels of the channel for a relatively short time period relative to the full LBT procedure. The shortened LBT procedure may be selected if a time period between a UE receiving a grant of uplink resources and the beginning of the uplink resources is less than a threshold time value.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described techniques provide for the identification of a sequence of beamforming parameters that are used for communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station using a sequence of transmission beams. A UE may measure received reference signals that are transmitted in a series of downlink transmission beams from a base station, and report measurement parameters associated with the downlink transmission beams to the base station as part of a beam tracking and beam refinement procedure. The base station may provide transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states that are associated with each transmission beam. The TCI states may be recorded over a course of a periodic movement of the UE, and may be used deterministically to identify beamforming parameters for transmission and reception of a subsequent series of downlink transmission beams when the UE makes a subsequent same periodic movement.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A transmitting device may identify synchronization signals and a set of frequency hopping channels for communications as part of a discovery reference signal (DRS) in an anchor channel. The set of frequency hopping channels may include a sequence to indicate an order for utilizing each hopping channel of the set of hopping channels. In some cases, the hopping sequence may be a pseudo random sequence. Additionally, the hopping sequence may be defined such that a non-repeating hopping sequence or pattern which visits all hopping frequencies before revisiting the same frequency is utilized. As such, each hopping channel may be utilized an equal number of times within a period of time and have an approximately equal occupancy time to the other hopping channels.

    Abstract: The extension of NB-IoT and eMTC communications into the unlicensed spectrum introduces a number of problems associated with channel quality measurement and reporting. A method, apparatus, and computer readable medium are presented that provide a technique for channel quality measurement and reporting that addressed such problems. A UE apparatus measures a CQI measurement for each of a plurality of groups of hopping frequencies, wherein a set of hopping frequencies is grouped into the plurality of groups and reports a CQI for each of the plurality of groups. A base station may configure the UE for CQI reporting and may receive a CQI for each of a plurality of groups of hopping frequencies, wherein a set of hopping frequencies is grouped into the plurality of groups. The set of hopping frequencies comprise frequencies in an unlicensed spectrum.
