    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device, such as a user equipment (UE) may monitor for a decoding candidate of a codeword, wherein the codeword corresponds to a set of received bit metrics, and the decoding candidate corresponds to a plurality of information bits encoded using a polar code, determine a composite detection metric for the codeword for the decoding candidate, where the composite detection metric is derived from a subset of bit metrics for an intermediate polarization layer of the polar code, and determine a classification for performing a list decoding process on the codeword according to the decoding candidate based at least in part on the composite detection metric.

    Abstract: The various aspects include transmitting, by a transceiver of the wireless communications device, an indication of a primary service preference for a primary service and a secondary service preference for a secondary service, receiving, by the transceiver, a radio access technology support configuration from the network at least in part in response to the transmitted indication of the primary service preference and the secondary service preference, and supporting the primary service or the secondary service based at least in part on the channel layer configuration. In this manner, the wireless communications device provides the network with multiple ranked service preferences, so that if a network down selection is needed, the network may select a lower ranked service preference rather than generating a channel layer configuration without knowledge of which settings are most efficient for the wireless communications device.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication employing polar code techniques are described. In some examples, polar codes with a cross-referenceable nested structure for hierarchical signaling may be used in a wireless communication system. For example, a user equipment may monitor a common portion and a dedicated portion of a control channel, the common portion assigned to a first set of control channel resources and the dedicated portion assigned to a second set of control channel resources within the control channel. The UE may concatenate, based at least in part on the monitoring, information fields of one or more symbols received via the first and second sets of control channel resources to form a polar-encoded codeword. The UE may decode the polar-encoded codeword to obtain common information from the common portion and dedicated information from the dedicated portion.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In a new radio (NR) system, a wireless device may encode control information into a codeword using a polar code. The device may prioritize certain information within the codeword due to the time criticalness of that information for processing at a receiving device. For example, information related to frequency allocation may be encoded such that the receiving device may decode the frequency allocation information early in the decoding process. The device may include partial parity checks throughout the codeword, so that the receiving device may test whether the decoded bits for the prioritized information pass a parity check, and may then send these decoded bits for processing before completing decoding of the codeword. In some cases, the device may encode the information to be transmitted using multiple evenized codewords, or using a single consolidated codeword.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may decode a polar coded codeword using a successive cancelation (SC) or successive cancelation list (SCL) decoder. The construction of the codeword may be based on multiple factors, such as a decoding complexity, reliability, codeword size, number of information bits, type of communication, etc. In some cases, multiple codeword constructions may be compared (e.g., with various weights applied to the relevant factors) and an optimal construction selected. Techniques described herein are applicable both to the selection of an optimal codeword as well as decoding operations. Specifically, the described techniques may allow for a reduced decoding complexity through the use of subtree pruning, in which characteristics of the polar scheme (e.g., the scheme selected by the encoder) may be exploited to reduce the complexity of the decoding operation.
