    Abstract: Method and apparatus for an enhanced beam refinement procedure in a multi-cell scenario. The apparatus receives a beam refinement configuration indicating beam measurement is restricted to a serving cell and excluded for a neighbor cell. The apparatus measures an SSB of the serving cell by sweeping multiple beams restricted based on the beam refinement configuration. Measurement of a concurrent SSB of the neighbor cell is excluded in the sweeping of the multiple beams. The apparatus identifies a refined beam for the serving cell based on the sweeping of the multiple beams.

    Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes receiving, by a UE, one or more configuration messages indicating synchronization signals (SS) and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block measurement timing configuration (SMTC) parameters. The SMTC parameters indicate SMTC windows associated with reception of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) by the UE from a base station. The method further includes, based on detecting one or more trigger conditions, transitioning, by the UE, from an inactive state to an active state to receive, during a time interval distinct from the SMTC windows, one or more SSBs from the base station. The method further includes performing, by the UE, one or more beam management operations based on the one or more SSBs received during the time interval.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may communicate with a base station using a first beam set of a group of beam sets, where each beam set includes a beam from a first set of beams with a first polarization and a beam from a second set of beams with a second polarization. The UE may receive a set of reference signals corresponding to a set of transmit beams of the base station, where the UE receives at least one reference signal for each beam of the first and second sets of beams. The UE may select a second beam set from the group of beam sets based on one or more parameters associated with the second beam set and based on receiving the set of reference signals, and may communicate with the base station using the selected beam set.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a base station and a user equipment (UE) may utilize multi-port reference signals to determine a beam pair for rank‑2 transmissions. For example, a UE may receive a set of multi-port reference signals, where each multi-port reference signal of the set corresponds to a unique beam pair and is received via two ports associated with two different polarizations. The UE may determine a spectral efficiency estimation for each multi-port reference signal of the set, select a beam pair associated with a multi-port reference signal with the highest determined spectral efficiency estimation of the set, and transmit an indication of the selected beam pair to the base station. Therefore, the UE and the base station may communicate using a beam pair which maximizes the spectral efficiency and rate of rank‑2 transmissions.

    Abstract: A UE may be configured to select narrower or wider beams that may be suitable for use with a current UE mobility, scattering environment, etc. The UE may track changes to an identified beam of a certain width, and so may recover from tracking or other radio link failures by switching to a beam that is spatially adjacent or to a beam of a different width. The UE may identify a first beam associated with a first beam width based on at least one reference signal received by the UE. The UE may further determine a set of beams based on the first beam width that is associated with the identified first beam, and the determined set of beams may include at least one beam corresponding to the first beam width. The UE may further measure respective channel qualities associated with each beam of the determined set of beams.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In a wireless communications system, a user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, an indication of a set of component carriers (CCs) for the UE and a respective frequency range (FR) for each CC of the set of CCs. Each CC-FR pairing may be associated with a respective priority of a set of priorities. The UE may initiate a plurality of timers, where each timer of the plurality of timers may correspond to a respective CC-FR pairing. After expiration of a timer of the plurality of timers, the UE may measure one or more reference signals of a subset of the set of CCs based at least in part on a capability of the UE and a priority of the respective CC-FR pairing associated with the timer.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may perform a set of synchronization signal block (SSB) measurements and select a serving UE beam and a set of candidate UE beams for measuring a channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) based on the set of SSB measurements. The UE may identify, or predict, time resources for the CSI-RS based on previous CSI-RS configurations. The UE may measure the CSI-RS based on the time resources using a candidate UE beam from the set of candidate UE beams. The UE may transmit, to an access network entity, a measurement report based on measuring the CSI-RS using the candidate UE beam or a last CSI-RS measurement on the serving UE beam.
