Abstract: 1,186,947. Apparatus for treating textiles. ROA CORPORATION. 23 May, 1968 [23 May, 1967], No. 24630/68. Heading D1L. [Also in Division G2] A liquid dispenser for applying a liquid developer 12 (Fig. 3) to a surface bearing a latent electrophotographic image comprises a container 10 having a reservoir, an elongated manifold 44 positioned on the top wall of the reservoir and having a feed opening 42 communicating with the exterior of the container, a pump 64 Fig. 2 for forcing liquid in the container into the manifold and out through the feed opening, a trough 47 surrounding the manifold for collecting excess liquid flowing through the feed opening, and a return passage 60, 62 from the trough to the reservoir. A rotatable magnetic member- 80 is magnetically coupled to impeller 64, and forces the liquid through channels 72, 74, 76 to manifold 48, glass or stainless steel wool 116 being disposed in the manifold to control and distribute the liquid. A standpipe 132 communicating with a drain 138 serves to maintain a constant pressure in the liquid supply, to allow bubbles generated by the pump to escape and to allow a greater volume flow through the pump thereby assisting mixing of the developer. A latent image is formed on a photoconductive surface 14 of a paper web 16 by contact with a cathode-ray tube face plate 106, an initial charge being given from corona discharge devices 100, 102. The web passes over a roller 46 so as to be slightly spaced from the feed opening 42 defined by two parallel spaced apart developing electrodes 52, 54. Return passages 60, 62 extend towards the bottom of the reservoir to minimise oxydation of the developer through contact with the air. The container is designed as a unit to permit portability and is therefore fully sealed, the developer being introduced into the container through a threaded aperture (34) (Fig. 6, not shown) which is then sealed with a screw plug (36). A vent passage (38) is located near the aperture (34). The feed opening and trough may be sealed by a plastic strip or adhesive tape during transit.

Abstract: A pickup stylus adapted to track in a disc record groove has a support element with a tip shaped to have a pair of sides, a rear face, and a bottom with edges defining a right triangle of small dimension. The rear face and the sides terminate at the base, altitude and hypotenuse edges of the bottom respectively. Also the tip has a knife edge formed at an intersection of the sides which extends upward from the apex of the triangular shaped bottom remote from the base edge at an angle obtuse to the bottom. When used in a disc record player system, the stylus tip is aligned such that the base edge of the bottom lies transverse to the groove, the hypotenuse edge spans diagonally substantially the entire width of a groove, while the altitude edge faces the center of rotation of the turntable. The direction of rotation of the turntable beneath the point of stylus reception in the groove extends from the apex of the triangular shaped bottom toward the base edge.

Abstract: In a playback system employing a stylus to recover recorded signals from a video disc when relative motion between the disc and the stylus is established, a rotary stylus reshaper is provided. A freely pivoted, light stylus-arm, carry the stylus, is mounted in a housing employed for movement of the stylus between a rest position and a play position. A rotatable drum, having an axle of rotation perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the stylus-arm, is located under the stylus when the stylus is at the rest position. The drum has a plurality of circular and coaxial grooves, concentric with the drum, the grooves having walls of abrasive material dimensioned and configured for the purpose of reshaping worn stylus to a desired shape. A friction wheel, mounted on the axle carrying the drum, engages the turntable and causes rotation of the drum when the stylus is lowered into an abrasive groove, permitting reshaping of the stylus. Means, which may be manually or automatically actuated, are provided for lowering and raising of the stylus into and out of engagement with an abrasive groove on the drum when the stylus is at the rest position. A cleaning brush having its bristles in contact with the drum is secured to the board for the purpose of cleaning the drum.
