    Abstract: TELEVISION SYNCHRONIZING APPARATUS In a television signal synchronizer having a coherent memory, it is necessary to modify the writing of data into memory or the reading of data out of memory in order to provide field conversion. In the described apparatus, the reading out of data is always done according to a non-variant sequence determined by the local (studio) reference timing signals. In a first embodiment the read address generator signals are modified so as to read out the stored video signal in accordance with the non-variant write in sequence. In a second embodiment the write address generator signals are modified so as to position the incoming video signal into memory so that it is located in the proper memory position for the non-variant read out sequence.

    Abstract: A parallel-striped color encoding filter balanced for white light is placed in front of a television camera pickup tube to encode scene light. The signal obtained from the pickup tube is decoded electrically to yield two color difference signals which may be matrixed to produce signals representative of the red, green and blue light from the scene. The average transmission of the encoding filter produces low frequency components which are representative of the brightness of the scene.

To this end the display system includes a signal processor which, in response to a video signal representative of a standard aspect ratio image, produces, for driving the wide aspect ratio display, a processed video signal the line periods of which each include not only the line synchronizing interval and active video interval but also a delay interval ('PAUSE') the effect of which is to determine the position of the displayed standard aspect ratio image within the width of the wide aspect ratio raster.

    Abstract: of the Invention An apparatus for correcting errors in color signal transitions includes a color limit signal producer. A wide bandwidth luminance signal is applied to the color limit signals producer which develops a limiting signal representing a constraint for a particular narrow bandwidth color difference or primary color signal. This limiting signal is combined with its associated color difference or primary color signal in combining means. The output of the signal combining means is a color difference or primary color signal that has amplitude values within the constraint imposed by the limit signal.

    Abstract: TELEVISION SYSTEMS AND SUBSYSTEMS THEREFOR An image is scanned by a color camera (800-808) and the luminance representative signals (e.g. Green) of pairs of adjacent lines are summed and differenced in a processor 861. Color signals R,G,B and the sum signal (GS) are matrixed to form chrominance components and luminance components of a standard composite video signal (e.g. I,Q, YS for NTSC) in a matrix 812. One of the chrominance components (I) is comb filtered (1112) to remove portions of its frequency spectrum. The difference signal ( G .DELTA. ) is comb filtered (1122) to be inserted (1124) into the removed portions of the chrominance component (Fig 11). A receiver (Fig 9) of such a composite signal comprises an adder (934) and a subtractor (935) together with a weighting circuit (935) for summing and differing the summed and differenced signals to reproduce the original luminance signals, which are then displayed on a display (921). In a compatible high definition system first ones (L1, L2) of the pairs of lines conform to a standard TV system (e.g. NTSC) and the second ones (L1A, L2A) are offset by e.g. ? of the standard interline spacing. In an example of the high definition system, the pairs of lines are sampled by a sinusoidal scanning path the samples from the lines being derived by a synchronous switch (618) (Fig. 6). The difference signal (G .DELTA. ) is invisible on a conventional receiver but allows high vertical defintion on the receiver of the invention.

    Abstract: TELEVISION SYNCHRONIZING APPARATUS Television synchronizer apparatus includes a coherent memory with preassigned fixed burst phasing of 0.degree. or 180.degree. for each line store of color video image information. The incoming synchronizing components including burst are discarded on the premise that they are well-known repetitive functions. The incoming color video image information is read into the memory coherent with the preassigned burst phasing, thereby significantly reducing the memory storage capacity normally utilized to store sync and burst information.
