Abstract: The appts. consists of a transparent discharge tube (10) containing a discharge gas and having two electrodes (11,12). The electrodes are arranged parallel to each other along the tube one (11) inside the tube and the other (12) outside. The outer electrode may be U=shaped. It may also consist of a layer of electrically conducting material deposited on the tube outer surface. ADVANTAGE - Has lower discharge stopping voltage and more uniform light density.

Abstract: A plasma display panel is formed with strip type anodes (A) and cathodes (K) formed on the surfaces of front (10) and back (20) plates to create a matrix. The anodes and cathodes are separated by spacers (B1-B3), of which two (B1,B3) are located adajcent to the top plate and the other on the base. Auxiliary anode elements (A') are formed on the underside of one type of spacer (B1). A light emitting material (P) is formed on the sides of the spacers in the cells of the matrix. ADVANTAGE - High contrast. Can be multicoloured.

Abstract: Transparent anode strips (30) are spaced at regular intervals on a forward substrate (10) at right angles to the cathode strips (40) which are formed on a rearward substrate (20). Each cathode consists of an under section (41) of highly conductive Ag paste and an upper section 842) of Ni paste resistant to ion bombardment and chemical attack. A sealing layer (60) between the cathodes (40) lies flush with the Ni paste sections (41) which are thus segregated entirely from the gas-filled space of the panel. ADVANTAGE - Better image quality is achieved with min. difference in brightness between pixels.
