    Abstract: Method and apparatus for the optical determination of the temperature of a gaseous mixture, the method comprising the stages consisting: of exciting in the infrared range the molecules of a gas of said mixture, from a first vibrational level towards a second vibrational level; of allowing the rotational relaxation of said molecules between the different rotational sub-levels of said second vibrational level; of measuring the ratio of the populations of molecules located at two of said rotational sub-levels; and of deducing from said ratio the temperature of the gaseous mixture.

    Abstract: Using a laser generator and by excitation of energy band transitions of molecular oxygen, the fluorescence of oxygen is caused, the intensities of the induced fluorescence in two different bands is measured, the ratio between these intensities is determined and the temperature is derived from this. Over a section of significant depth (c[ tau + tau ']/2), two absorption lines (R, R') are excited which at least overlap and which respectively belong to two different Schumann-Runge bands of oxygen.     Abstract: Using a laser generator generating a very fine line Po and by excitation of an absorption line (R) of molecular oxygen, back-scattered radiation is caused, the back-scattered energies at two different distances are measured, the ratio of these energies is determined and an absorption coefficient, which is a function of the temperature and the molecular density of oxygen, is derived from this and, having determined the temperature of the air, the density, and therefore the pressure, is computed. The absorption line R belonging to a Schumann-Runge band of molecular oxygen is excited and the absorption line R is very wide with respect to the Rayleigh diffusion spectrum.
