Abstract: Recordable areas are recorded such that, if a recordable area (T4(1)-T4(4), T5(1)-T5(2)) exists on the outermost position of the disc (1), it is headed, and the other recordable areas (T4(1)-T4(4), T5(1)-T5(2)) are linked from the inner peripheral side in order of address, to be thus managed. With this method, the audio-recording is executed such that the segment division is minimized and the distance between segments is minimized. This makes it possible to shorten the segment access time and eliminate the access in reproducing, and hence to prevent the sound-interruption and the lowering of shock-proof in reproducing action.

Abstract: A disc recording apparatus records digital data by an optical head (3) such that time compressed digital data are arranged into a plurality of clusters (C) at an interval of a predetermined number of sectors, a cluster-linking sector having a length longer than an interleaving length is provided at each linking part of each cluster (C), and the digital data are subsequently interleaved and recorded on a disc-shaped recording medium (2) so that interleaving at the time of data recording on a cluster-by-cluster basis is within the range of the cluster-linking sector. There is also disclosed a disc reproducing apparatus for reproducing digital data so recorded.

Abstract: A recording and/or reproducing apparatus for a disc-shaped recording medium (1) on which management data to manage recorded data are recorded, including a recording and/or reproducing unit (3), a memory (13) and a memory controller (12). The recording and/or reproducing unit (3) records data on the disc-shaped recording medium (1) and/or reproduces recorded data from the disc-shaped recording medium (1). The memory (13) temporarily stores therein data which are reproduced by the recording and/or reproducing unit (3), and temporarily stores therein data which are supplied to the recording and/or reproducing unit (3) and recorded on the disc-shaped recording medium (1). The memory (13) includes a first storage area for storing data which are produced from the disc-shaped recording medium (1) by the recording and/or reproducing unit (3), or data which are supplied to the recording and/or reproducing unit and recorded on the disc-shaped recording medium (1), and a second storage area for storing the management data for the disc-shaped recording medium (1) which are read out by the recording and/or reproducing unit. The memory controller (12) controls a writ-in and read-out operation of data into the memory. When data are recorded on the disc-shaped recording medium by the recording and/or reproducing unit, the memory controller (12) stores into the first storage area of the memory (13) the data which will be recorded on the disc-shaped recording medium (1) by the recording and/or reproducing unit (3) while storing into the second storage area of the memory the management data for the disc-shaped recording medium (1) which are read out by the recording and/or reproducing unit (3).

Abstract: An optical disc (1) reproducing apparatus including an optical head (3), memory (13), controller (11) and decoder (14). The head (3) intermittently reads digital data in at least two channels L, and R recorded on an optical disc. The memory (13) temporarily stores digital data obtained by demodulating the output data of the optical head (3). The controller (11) controls the reading operation of the optical head on the optical disc (1) based on the amount of the digital data stored in the memory (13). The controller (11) also controls an operation of writing data into the memory and an operation of reading data from the memory so that the digital data output by the optical head (3) are written into the memory (13) at a transfer rate which is higher than the transfer rate at which the digital signals stored in the memory are read out. The is supplied with the digital data for the two channels stored in the memory on a time-division basis. When data are supplied from the memory (13) to the decoder (14), the controller supplies the decoder with a channel identification signal for identifying the channel with which the data received by the decoder is associated.

Abstract: An optical disc (1) reproducing apparatus including an optical head (3), memory (13), controller (11) and decoder (14).
