The present invention provides an optical recording medium including a recording layer 2 and an optical reflection layer 3 formed on a substrate 1. The recording layer 2 contains at least one particular polymethine pigment selected from polymethine pigments having 1 to 4 carbons in the methine main chain, so as to obtain a sufficient recording sensitivity for a red wavelength range of light.
Abstract:
An optical recording medium having two or more information recording layers in which information is recorded at high recording density. The incidence of light on the information recording layer disposed far from the top layer through which light enters and the returning light from the information recording layer can be detected at high efficiency. The recording/reproducing characteristics are favorable. An optical recording/reproducing method for at least reproducing/recording information from/on this optical recording medium is also disclosed. The optical recording medium (10) comprises information recording layers (21, 22) between a first major surface on which light can be incident and a second major surface opposed to the first major surface. The first information recording layer (21) nearest to the second major surface is a phase-modulation information recording layer, and the second information recording layer (22) is a reflectance-modulation information recording layer. Information is reproduced or recorded from or in the first information recording medium (21) of the optical recording medium (10) by a phase modulation method, and information is reproduced or recorded from or in the second information recording layer (22) by a reflectance modulation method.

An optical recording medium using Sn as the recording material to improve the jitter is provided, in which on the surface of a disc substrate 11 where a concave and convex shape dividing a track area is formed, are formed on the surface of the concave and convex shape a first protective layer 31 for protecting at least an optical recording layer 31, an optical recording layer 12 using a chemical compound at least composed of tin (Sn), nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O), formed on the first protective layer, a second protective layer 32 for protecting this optical recording layer, formed on this optical recording layer, and a light-transmittable layer 13 formed on the second protective layer; with this structure, the optical recording layer 12 under high temperature and high humidity can be stabilized by means of the first and second protective layers 31 and 32.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly reproduce information to be essentially recorded.SOLUTION: In an optical information reproducing device, a detection signal S obtained on the basis of a reflected light beam from an optical information recording medium is compared with a first signal level V1 and a second signal level V2 by a fluctuation detection part of a signal processing part to generate a first detection signal SV1 and a second detection signal SV2. In the signal processing part, the first detection signal SV1 and the second detection signal SV2 are converted into a first code sequence CV1 and a second code sequence CV2, respectively, by a code sequence generating part and when the second code sequence CV2 becomes a value 1, a substitution code sequence CR is substituted for a code sequence CB in the vicinity of the first code sequence CV1 to form a code sequence C. Thereby, in the optical information reproducing device, the code sequence C corresponding to two recording marks which should be essentially recorded can be generated even when merged recording marks are formed in the optical information recording medium.
