    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a projection on a magnetic recording medium by detecting a change of a temperature due to an energy obtained when a resistance body butts against the projection and detecting the projection. SOLUTION: In order to manufacture a projection detection sensor 1, first, a Permalloy film is formed by vapor deposition at a rear end of a head slider 5. The Permalloy film is the etched by dry etching thereby to form a resistance body 4. Lead wires 2, 3 are formed at both ends of the Permalloy film. A sensor 1 is constituted in this manner. The sensor 1 utilizes an energy converter into heat among an energy of the resistance body 4 generated when the resistance body 4 butts against a projection on a magnetic disk 6. The resistance body 4 is exposed at a surface of the slider 5. Therefore, the energy generated when the resistance body 4 butts against the projection on the magnetic disk 6 is directly converted into heat by the resistance body 4 because of no intervening substance. A detecting sensitivity of the sensor 1 is accordingly enhanced, so that even a minute projection can be detected by the sensor 1.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate false peaks and to take out excellent peak data automatically by detecting the intersection of an intermediate curve and a measured curve, and detecting the maximum value or the minimum value. CONSTITUTION:In a block 5 for the maximum value or the minimum value, the following operation is performed: curves which are plotted based on the position information of an intersection obtained in a block 4 and measured data (a) from a terminal 11 are used; the level and the position of the maximum value are detected when the measured data are higher than the intermediate curve between the intersections; the level and the position of the minimum value are detected when the data are lower than said curve; and the results are taken out through a terminal 12 as peak data (b). Namely, the upper interpolating curve shown by B is obtained fro the block 1. The lower interpolating curve shown by C is obtained from a block 2. In a block 3, the intermediate curve shown by D is computed. The intersection X of the curve D and the curve A is detected with a block 4. The block 5 detects the maximum value or the minimum value of the measured curve between the intersections. The value is specified as only one peak data between the intersections. Therefore, false peaks lower than said peak can be eliminated.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability in error checking of a magnetic disk having a track pattern without adding a new mechanism. SOLUTION: In a certifier that performs error checking of a PERM disk in which concentric track patterns are provided, a track width Twh of a reproduction head 2a is set to be substantially equal to a track pitch p1 of the PERM disk. During the error checking to be performed, when a check signal on a data track DT is read out by the reproduction head 2a, the reproduction head 2a traverses the data track DT since eccentricity exists between the center of tracks on the PERM disk and the rotation center of the PERM disk. A portion of the track width Twh of the reproduction head 2a that corresponds to a portion thereof existing in the outside of the data track DT is controlled to overlap the adjacent data track DT'. Thus, the effective track width that contributes to the reproduction of the reproduction head 2a is always maintained at substantially a constant value.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magnetic disk high in the amplitude of reproducing output all over the surface. SOLUTION: A magnetic layer 8 is deposited on a disk substrate 7 having a desired rugged pattern. While the disk substrate 7 is rotated, an enough large DC current is applied to a magnetic head 11 floating on the substrate to magnetize the projecting part 9 and recessed part 10 of the magnetic layer 8 altogether in one direction. Then a DC current smaller than the first DC current is applied to the magnetic head 11 to invert the magnetization only in the projecting part 9 of the magnetic layer 8. In this process, the DC current applied on the magnetic head 11 and/or rotation of the disk substrate 7 are changed in the radial direction of the disk substrate 7 in such a manner that the magnetic field applied on the magnetic layer 8 is almost uniform in the radial direction of the disk substrate 7.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the position accuracy of a tracking signal and improve the production efficiency by a method wherein the ratio of the amplitude of an undulation in a rotating direction on an arbitrary circle on a disc surface to the circumferential length of that circle is controlled to be not larger than a required value. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic film 2 is formed on a molded rigid substrate 1. Servo-marks 3a composed of recessed/protruding parts 3c/3b are pre-formed on the molded rigid substrate 1. The parts of the magnetic film 2 corresponding to the recessed parts 3c of the rigid substrate 1 and the parts of the magnetic film 2 corresponding to the protruding parts 3b of the rigid substrate 1 are magnetized in respective directions opposite to each other. On the surface of a magnetic disc like this, if the amplitude of an undulation in a rotating direction on an arbitrary circle is denoted by A and the circumferential length of that circle is denoted by rho, A/rho is not larger than 0.024. By using the molded rigid substrate 1 which is pre-formed to have the recessed/ protruding parts, the shape parameter and the specific vibration frequency of the magnetic disc are restricted, so that the position accuracy of a tracking signal and the production efficiency can be improved and a slider whose floating height is set to be about 0.1mum can float and run stably.

Whereas, the output is increased to the negative side in the timing when the magnetic head 7 is passed through the side 4. Consequently, the accurate tracking control of the magnetic head 7 is possible, when the tracking control for the magnetic head 7 is made in accordance with the interval between the positive peak and negative peak of the reproducing output of magnetic head 7.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable measurement of the amount of a gap on a real time basis by a method wherein a plurality of measuring light beams are made to fall on an object of measurement, the respective interference light beams thereof are obtained therefrom and the amount of the gap is measured from the ratio of the interference light beams with reference to a table. CONSTITUTION:A light source 21 outputs measuring light beams LR, LG and LB of wavelengths lambdaR, lambdaG and lambdaB. These measuring light beams LR to LB are made to fall on a head 11 from the back through an optical system. Accordingly, interference fringes corresponding to the amount of a gap between a head 11 and a tape 12 are generated by the head and the tape, interference light beams caused by these interfer ence fringes are supplied to a color video camera 31, and a color video signal based on the interference light beams is taken out of the camera 31. This video signal is supplied to a color processing circuit 32 and color signals ER, EG and EB corresponding to the light beams LR to LB are separated and taken out. These signals ER to EB are supplied to a division circuit 35 via level correction circuits 33R to 33B and A/D converters 34R to 34B. Quotients U to W obtained in the circuit 35 are supplied to ROM 36, and the amount (d) of the gap is taken out from a data output of the ROM 36 and outputted to a terminal 37.
