A projection detecting signal is amplified with a signal amplifying circuit 131 and compared with the magnitude of a slice level signal with a signal comparing circuit 132. When the detecting signal is larger, the projection detecting signal is larger, the projection detecting signal is displayed on a displaying device 142 via a data output circuit 134.

CONSTITUTION: One pair of magnetic half bodies 11, 12 consisting of magnetic material such as ferrite are butted to each other through a gap material made of magnetic material 16 having a gap (g) to form a magnetic core 13. Then, a winding is applied to a winding groove 14 provided in the magnetic core 13 to form a coil 15. In this magnetic head 11, a recording and a reproducing with respect to a video tape being a magnetic recording medium are performed by a leakage magnetic field generated in the vicinity of the magnetic gap (g). However, in this load measuring instrument, it is different from the magnetic head that the magnetic core 3 is constituted while magnetic core half bodies 1, 2 are butted without having a gap equivalent to the magnetic gap (g). Consequently, a closed flow-path is formed without generating a leakager magnetic field and this load measuring instrument is not affected by a magnetic influence from the magnetic recording medium, etc.

The rate of change to the change of the film thickness of a magnetic layer of the logarithmically converted output signals is kept constant at all times even when the film thickness of the magnetic layer is within any range, and excellent detecting sensibility can be ensured even in a defective section, in which the film thickness of the magnetic layer is comparatively increased and which is close to the normal state of coating. Accordingly, sufficient detecting sensibility can be assured, thus allowing detection having high sensibility.
