Abstract: Data in the same signal format as conventional CD is recorded to a first part PA1. Compressed digital data in CD-ROM format in double density is recorded to a second part PA2. Addresses of a first session including the first part are represented in the notation of minute, second, and frame. Addresses of a second session including the second part are represented in binary notation. When the record position moved from first session to the second session, the end address of the first session is converted into an address of the second session (at step S3). At step S4, designating the start address as address B, second addresses (for example, addresses represented in binary notation) are generated. When there is a non-record portion between the two sessions, an address value corresponding to the non-record portion is added to the start address. The resultant address is used as the new start address.

Abstract: A data recording method by which data of a compact disk can be recorded well onto a magneto-optic disk of the ISO format. Data of a compact disk are recorded onto a 5-inch magneto-optic disk (ISO format) of the 512 bytes/sector type of the CS system. The sector size of the magneto-optic disk is 610 bytes. Data included in one sector (98 frames) of the compact disk are 2, 352 bytes and subcodings of P to W are 96 bytes. Data for one sector are divided into data groups A to H to construct a data format. A CRC is added to each data group. Further, a parity 2 (Reed-Solomon code) is added. Data (3, 050 bytes) for one sector of the compact disk to which the CRCs, parities and so forth are added are recorded across 5 sectors of the magneto-optic disk. Data of a compact disk can be recorded onto a magneto-optic disk having a different sector size, and since error correction codes or error detection codes are added using the remaining area, the data can be recorded with a high degree of accuracy.

Abstract: A METHOD OF RECORDING INFORMATION IS PROVIDED, IN WHICH A FIRST SIGNAL IS RECORDED ALONG THE LENGTH OF A RECORDING TRACK PREVIOUSLY FORMED ON AN A RECORDING-MEDIUM. ON THE RECORDING TRACK, A SECOND SIGNAL IS PRE-RECORDED BY OFFSETTING THE TRACK IN ITS WIDTH DIRECTION. DURING THE RECORDING OF THE FIRST SIGNAL, THE POINTS OF TRANSITION OF THE FIRST SIGNAL ARE POSITIONED SO AS TO BE SPACED APART FROM, AND THEREFORE UNAFFECTED BY, THE POINTS OF TRANSITION OF THE SECOND SIGNAL. ALSO, BY INCLUDING A CLOCK SYNCHRONISATION SIGNAL IN THE FIRST SIGNAL, PLL CAPTURE MAY BE ACHIEVED ACCURATELY IN A SHORTER TIME. IN ADDITION, THE UNIT OF PHASE SHIFT BETWEEN THE CHANNEL CLOCK OF THE FIRST SIGNAL AND THE CHANCEL CLOCK OF THE SECOND SIGNAL IS SET TO BE SHORTER THAN THE CHANNEL CLOCK BIT. A DATA RECORDING METHOD AND AN OPTICAL DATA RECORDING METHOD ARE ALSO PROVIDED, WHICH MAY BE SUITABLE APPLIED TO A MAGNETO-OPTICAL DISC OR THE LIKE. THE DATA ARE PREVIOUSLY MODULATED BY A MODULATION SYSTEM SATISFYING A PREDETERMINED RULE OF MODULATION AND INCLUDE CONNECTION BITS BETWEEN ADJACENT UNITS OF THE MODULATED DATA BY WAY OF FURTHER MODULATION. CONTROL INFORMATION IS RECORDED BY OFFSETTING THE TRACK UNITS OF THE MODULATED DATA BY WAY OF FURTHER MODULATION. CONTROL INFORMATION IS RECORDED BY OFFSETTING THE TRACK ALONG ITS WIDTH, WHILE THE POINTS OF TRANSITION OF THE TRACK ALONG ITS WIDTH COINCIDE WITH THE RECORDING REGION FOR THE CONNECTING BITS, SINCE THE LATER ARE NOT PART OF THE MAIN SIGNAL INFORMATION.

Abstract: AN OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM PROVIDED WITH BOTH A RECORDABLE AREA IN WHICH DATA CAN BE RECORDED AND A READ-ONLY AREA IN WHICH DATA HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECORDED IN AN UNERASABLE MANNER. IN THE RECORDABLE AREA, A GUIDE GROOVE IS PREVIOUSLY FORMED FOR TRACKING CONTROL, AND RECORDING MAY BE PERFORMED, FOR EXAMPLE, PHOTOMAGNETICALLY, ALONG THE GUIDE GROOVE. IN THE READ-ONLY AREA, DATA IS PREVIOUSLY RECORDED BY OFFSETTING THE GROOVE OR A LAND ALONG THE TRACK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DATA. THIS READ-ONLY DATA MAY BE REPRODUCED BY DETECTING THE LASER LIGHT RADIATED FROM AN OPTICAL PICKUP AND REFLECTED BY THE MEDIUM BY A TWO-SEGMENT PHOTODETECTOR. ( FIG. 2 )

Abstract: A method of receiving and decoding doubly-encoded, interleaved data occurring in blocks of information words and first and second check words to correct errors occurring due to transmission, includes adding error pointers to indicate uncorrectable errors, and thereafter checking the number of pointers in each block and protecting against miscorrection of errors. The data are decoded in a first decoder and the information words and first check words are corrected by syndromes using the second check words. A pointer is added to any words containing uncorrectable error. Then the words so decoded are deinterleaved and decoded in a second decoder, where the information words are corrected by syndromes using the first check words. Here the pointers show the position of any erroneous words to facilitate error correction. The number and location of erroneous words in each block, at the second decoder, is determined by using the error syndromes. If the erroneous word locations as determined by the syndromes is coincident with the locations indicated by the associated pointers, the erroneous words, up to the predetermined number, are corrected. Finally, uncorrected erroneous words are compensated by interpolation.

Abstract: Error detection and correction method and apparatus for use with digital data signals, which have been coded using cross-interleaving error correction codes with added check words prior to transmission, employ a plurality (k) of syndrome word signals SO. . . Sk-1) that are generated by multiplying one block (Vt) of the received digital data signals with a parity check matrix, in which each element of one predetermined row is a function of a root of an irreducible polynomial on Galois field GF (2), the syndromes are used to obtain a set of constant word signals (A, B, and C). Error detection and correction is based on these developed syndrome word and constant word signals, in which if selected syndrome word and constant word signal levels are equal to zero, there is no error word declared; if selected ones of the syndrome word and constant word signal levels are equal to zero and selected other signal levels are not equal to zero, then one error word is declared and error correction is performed by calculation of the syndrome word signals which have been determined to be the equivalent of error pattern signals; and if selected constant word signal levels are not equal to zero, additional constant word signals (D, E) are generated and an error location equation is solved to detect the error locations (i, j) and the two word errors are corrected based on the syndrome/error pattern relationship. Up to two word errors in one error correcting block can be detected and corrected and three word errors or four word errors can be corrected if the error locations are known.

A pointer is added to any words containing uncorrectable error. Then the words so decoded are deinterleaved and decoded in a second decoder, where the information words are corrected by syndromes using the first check words. Here the pointers show the position of any erroneous words to facilitate error correction. The number of erroneous words in each block, at the second decoder, is determined by counting the associated pointers. If the number is less than a predetermined value, the pointers are cleared, but if it is greater than that value, the data are regarded as unreliable, and the pointers remain. Alternatively, all words in the block are given error pointers. Also, for a given number of erroneous words in each block as determined by syndromes, if the number of pointers is less than a predetermined amount, the entire block is regarded as unreliable and all words are given a pointer. Finally, uncorrected erroneous words are compensated by interpolation.
