Abstract: The process is used for the continuous recovering of acetonitrile from unpurified mixtures. It is used for the preparation of a product having high purity - up to 99.9%. The recovering of the acetonitrile comprises: distilling the crude acetonitrile in a first distillation zone at a pressure of about 1 atm. for the removal of HCN and the production of a first acetonitrile /water azeotrope and a first bottoms product containing water; distilling the first azeotrope in second distillation zone at a pressure less than 1 atm., in other to separate the first azeotrope into a second bottoms product containing water and a second acetonitrile/water having azeotrope a greater acetonitrile cincentration than the first azeotrope; distilling the second acetonitrile/water azeotrope in a third distillation zone at a pressure above 1 atm., for the production of a third acetonitrile/water, azeotrope containing substantially all of the water in the second azeotrope, a third bottoms settling product containing acetonenitrile and heavy organic, and a side stream flow containing the highly pure acetonitrile.
