Preferred catalysts have the formula:-… AaDbFecRudOx … In a representative embodiment maleic anhydride is converted to pyrrolidone by hydrogenation/amination in the presence of a ruthenium containing catalyst at a pressure of approximately 70 kg/cm at a temperature of approximately 250 DEG C.
