    Abstract: 23,924. Stewart, W. Oct. 19. Cutters for levelling wood paving. - Consists in mounting rotary cutters behind an abrading-disk and a rotary brush to prepare and clean the surface. The machine comprises a wheeled chassis 1, propelled through worm gearing 5, 6, 7, 8 from the shaft 4 of a steamengine. The cutters 9, 10, mounted on horizontal spindles, either parallel to the spindles or spirally, are driven by belts 13, 14 from a transverse shaft 19 driven from the shaft 4 through a belt 22. The abrading-disk 23 with a roughened or serrated under surface is rotated through bevel-gearing from the shaft 19, and is adjustable vertically by a bell-crank 26 operated by a screw 27 and a hand-wheel 28. Sweeping-machines.-The rotary brush 29 is driven by sprocket, bevel, and worm gearing from the engine shaft 4 , and is raised and lowered by a lever 32.

    Abstract: 829. Stewart, W., and Stewart, J. Jan. 14. Producers.-A rotating fuel feeding and spreading means for use in a producer is water-cooled throughout, and is applicable for use as a steam generator. A jacketed feed-box 7 supplied from a hopper 20 is supported on a ball bearing 8 and enclosed by a hollow frame 4. Openings 12 in the side of the box register with opening 5 in the frame. The bottom of the box is conical, and connects with a tube 14 carrying a hollow spreader 13. Water is supplied through a pipe 21 to the jacket, tube, and spreader, overflows into the hollow frame, and escapes by a pipe 22. A flange on the outer casing of the jacket protects the ball bearing. When used in a suction-gas producer, the water-cooled parts serve as a vaporizer, the water space of the frame being enlarged at the top and provided with a cover, having an air inlet and a water-sealed flange. If this flange is replaced by a gland and stuffing-box, the steam may be generated under pressure.
