Abstract: PURPOSE:To exactly execute an optical measurement, an optical signal processing, etc., by coloring a supporting member in order to suppress a fact that a light beam which has invaded a supporting member from the outside surface is propagated through an optical waveguide part. CONSTITUTION:A colored supporting member 2 is prepared, the inner wall of a hollow part of the supporting member 2 is brought to coating by a clad 4, and an optical waveguide part 3 is formed in a space surrounded by the clad 4. In such a way, a light beam which has invaded the supporting member 2 from the outside is absorbed by a colorant and attenuated at the time of passing through the supporting member 2, therefore, a level of the light beam which goes into the optical waveguide part 3 and propagates can be suppressed up to a prescribed rate, and a measurement, a signal processing, etc. of the light beam which is radiated from a light emitting element 5 and propagated through the optical waveguide part 3 can be executed with a satisfactory S/N.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition of high electrical conductivity with outstanding processability, suitable for electronic parts, etc., by dispersion of specific electrolyte in a specific crosslinked polymeric compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by dispersion of (A) group I or II metal ion (e.g. in the form of lithium perchlorate) in (B) a crosslinked polysiloxane cured product with at least its side chain carrying organic group comprising (poly)oxyalkylene group, constituted of structure of formula I (R and R ' are each organic group capable of bonding to silicon atom; Z is crosslink group) in which other section than the crosslinked one is represented by formula II [l is integer; m is 0 or positive number; R -R are each organic group capable of bonding to silicon atom; X is organic group comprising (poly)oxyalkylene group]. The component B can be prepared by addition reaction between (1) an organic compound with its crosslink section carrying at least two unsaturated groups and (2) the hydrogenated silicon group in polysiloxane main chain.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To remove restrictions on assembling of various devices whose combination with optical elements is necessary by providing an optical waveguide part and a supporting member and burying at least one optical element (a light emitting element or a photodetector) in the optical waveguide part. CONSTITUTION:An optical waveguide part 12a is columnar and its sectional shape is not changed even near a light emitting element 13a, and it is covered with a supporting member 11a. An optical waveguide part 12b is expanded near a light emitting element 13b and is covered with a supporting member 11b. The sectional shape of an optical waveguide part 12c may be changed. A light emitting element 13d is brought into contact with an optical waveguide part 12d and is held by a supporting member 11d, and a part of a light emitting element 13e exists in an optical waveguide part 12e. The optical waveguide part 12e is covered with a supporting member 11e, and it is unnecessary to insert the light emitting element 13e completely into the supporting member 11e.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To solve an irregularity of the surface of a core which is a cause of a transmission loss by flowing a core forming liquid polymer downwardly and by cross-linking the liquid polymer during flowing downwardly. CONSTITUTION:The core forming liquid polymer is fed to a nozzle 2 from the feeding tank 1, to flow it downwardly. In this case, the liquid polymer is flowed naturally or under a pressure downwardly. The flowing liquid polymer is irradiated the suitable cross-linking source from at least one direction to form a cross-link of the liquid polymer. The radiation (for example, a alpha ray, a beta ray, a gamma ray and a X ray), an ultraviolet ray or a heat are used as the suitable cross-linking source. The preferable radiation is the beta ray, namely an accelerated electron beam. The heating is carried out by an infrared ray or a heater.

Namely, this fiber is eventually formed of the cured matter obtd. by curing the clad material and the clad having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core is obtd. The plastic clad optical fiber having the high serviceable temp. and the sufficient strength is thereby obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent light transmissivity from being significantly undesirably affected by humidity and temp. by using an org. siloxane polymer incorporated with a hydrophilic group as a light guide part. CONSTITUTION:The light guide having the light guide part and clad or having the light guide part, clad and sheath consists of the org. siloxane polymer having the hydrophilic group. The org. siloxane polymer may have the hydrophilic group as the main chain of the polymer and has usually the hydrophilic group as the side chain of the polymer. The hydrophilic group may be any hydrophilic groups and is more preferably an ester group (for example, methyl ester, ethyl ester or propyl ester group), hydroxyl group, ether group (for example, methyl ether or ethyl ether group) and ketone group in terms of toxicity and safety. The decrease in the quantity of light transmission by a change in temp. and humidity is thereby extremely lessened.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To securely and easily connect equipment to an optical fiber without using any adhesive, etc., by using a connection and terminal component by cutting a thread in the terminal part of the clad part of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Two optical fibers which can be connected with each other are formed of cores 1 and clads 2, the surfaces of the terminal parts of the clads 2 are thread-cut, and the connection component 3 such as a nut is fitted to the screws, thereby easily connecting the two optical fibers. A fixing component 4 is arranged at the periphery of the connection component 3 and fixed with a set screw 5, and a spring 6 is provided between the connection component 3 and fixing component 5 to prevent the screw 5 from being loosened, thereby securing the connection. Further, when an optical link 7 provided with a light emitting and receiving element 8 is connected to an optical fiber, the connection and terminal component 3 is fitted to the optical link 7 and the optical fiber having a thread in its clad 2 is screwed in to easily connect the optical fiber and optical link 7 with each other.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a functional ionen polymer capable of functioning as photochromic, electrochromic, thermochromic material etc. and having excellent mechanical properties, which is represented by a particular structural formula. CONSTITUTION:A functional ionen polymer represented by the formula 1 (wherein X is a polyether residue; R is a satd. or unsatd. aliphatic hydrocarbon group; and n is an integer of 2 or more). A preferable example of the polyether residue includes one having a 2-4C ether unit, particularly poly oxytetramethylene. With respect to R, the aliphatic satd. hydrocarbon group is preferably a 1-3 alkylene group which may have a methyl group, while the aliphatic hydrocarbon group having an unsatd. bond is pref. alkenylene, alkadienylene, alkatrienylene, and alkynylene capable of forming a conjugated structure with a pyridine ring. The anion represented by the A is a monovalent or divalent anion.
